Sam I am. I must admit I was not a big fan of Sam I'm here to shoot Cassel. But with rondo refusing to shoot and scoring practically nothing, What is the plan with Sam. I mean Let's at least give him a shot this year. Anybody have any inside info??

Yeah, I'm a little surprised to have seen none of Sam at all. The only reasoning I can think of is that they're trying to rest him up and keep him fresh in time for a playoff run, similar to PJ Brown last year.

Yeah, I remember reading that that was the plan a week or so ago.  Sam said that he'll contribute to the team this year, but the plan is to rest him up.  He expects to play shortly.

Didn't Sam play his way out of the rotation during the playoffs last season? He's not the answer, though he's a nice guy to have around in a pinch.

Here's one quote from Sam:

Quote
The Celtics have yet to play guard Sam Cassell, either in the preseason or regular season. Yet they are still using a roster spot on the 39-year-old guard.

"I'm here for the postseason," Cassell told the Boston Globe. "Doc (Rivers is) getting me ready; he'll give me enough time, then activate me. I'm in good shape. I'm in better shape than last year, and when my number is called, I'll be ready." ...

and another:

Quote
Asked when he expects to make his season debut, guard Sam Cassell said, "Soon. Very soon. I'm 38 years old. I'm just trying not to wear myself out. It's a marathon, not a sprint."

Here's what Doc said:

Quote
``There's no plan with Sam,'' Rivers said. ``He's important to the team and he's helping us out on the floor. Obviously later in the year he's going to be more important, but I'll make that decision in time. He's been great. We laugh and joke, and he's good for everyone. He reminds me of what Kevin Millar was for the Red Sox. He keeps it loose.'' . . .
and

Quote
"Sam is important to the team," Doc Rivers said last night before the Celtics lost to the Pacers, 95-79, in Indianapolis. "There is no plan with Sam. I know where I want to go with him, and he can help the team on the floor. Later in the year he will be more important. I'll activate him to get him some game experience and it will be later rather than sooner."

Cassell has been busy mentoring the Celtics' point guards.

"We need him. He keeps it loose but he is very serious," Rivers said. "He is able to say certain things to players."

Any ideas on who a possible back up point could be through trade?

Someone that wouldn't threaten rondo's Job. But an experienced

Vet. that could run the offense and hit a freakin wide open Jumper.

I know how bout Randy foye from Ol Buddy Kevin, For Big Baby And Eddie House.

No really though any realistic guys you could see us picking up?

honestly, back up PG is low on my list of priorites right now. I don't think the need is as dire as the panic threads indicate. Pruitt, house, and sam should be able to help out till rondo gets his head out of his butt.

Back up SF and a big who can earn minutes are higher on my list of priorities.

its nto about paul's play, its about his minutes.

I do not want paul playing 38+ minutes a night because doc doesn't (rightfuly) trust his backup options, its ridiculous.

I dont want him to play that time too
but they can alternate with Tony, now our superstar Scal
or even Ray for streches
theres that guy walker too

And I dont know i trust tony as Paul backup more than I trust Pruitt as Rondo backup
and Eddie after all is Rays backup not rondos, he is not and he will never be a point guard

Well, you know, Sam was not that good last season I am not longing to watch him on court one more time.

As mi amigo Edgar said we need a backup PG, but I don't thin Sam is our man.

yeah, backup 3 seems to be pretty much covered with TA and Scal.  And between Pruitt, Sam and Eddie, we don't need another pg.

if we add any one player, it should someone that fits the PJ Brown mold.  Hopefully PJ himself...

I still prescribe to the theory that his being a player on a vet min contract is nothing more than the Celtics getting the NBA to subsidize half his salary as a coach and we will only see Sam if there's a major injury.
