I don't think people are factoring in what an important loss McDyess is for the Pistons rotation. Maybe Maxiell can make up for the big man loss but McDyess is a cagey, talented veteran that played well when it counted most for that team. His loss will be felt more than any loss of Billups not made up by AI. I just don't see Amir Johnson, Kwame Brown, or Walter Hermann being the answer underneath for that team come playoff time.

Count me as a McDyess fan Nick.  He was huge against the C's last year.  He's a positive factor on the court.
Yup

I agree.  I bet Rajon Rondo loves this move too.  No more Chauncey Billups talk in regards to Rondo.  Rondo vs Iverson is a much more favorable match up for us.

It's not often you see a trade that makes both team worse... Really? This actually happened? Detroit messes with a core that is solid and had a legitimate chance to contend. Denver traded away a scorer for a declining point guard in a long deal and a buy out candidate.

Why again did they do this???

I think it's important to note that Iverson can play defense when the mood strikes him. He did for Larry Brown in Phily. Put him in a tough Detroit squad full of capable defensive players and he could raise his D in a big way. Iverson has been dogging it for the last few years on the defensive end, but he is a capable defensive player.

He played the passing lanes.  Philly had defensive players at every other position and a big shot blocker (ratlif then Mutumbo) to cover for AI.

It worked in the weak east then.  It hasn't worked since.  Certainly not going to work against Boston who has guys that will hurt them if they have to scramble to cover for AI playing the passing lanes.

Which is what they have in Detroit.

Minus the weak East.

But plus a better overall defensive team with Detroit, full of players who have won a championship on the merits of their defense.

No.  It isn't.

The defensive team that won a title is gone.  No longer has the PG that disrupts the other teams offense.  No longer has the cleanup man in the paint.

They have two defensive players in the lineup, Prince and Wallace.  They don't even have the attack dog PG off the bench anymore with Hunter.

We'll see what happens with McDyess threatening not to report.

I could easily see the deal get nixed, then resurrected within 6 weeks time, when Kwame Brown and possibly another small contract player like Sharpe or Acker can be substituted into the deal for McDyess.

Man, I think this is a great move for Denver. Billups brings stability and order to an overly-chaotic, leader-less team. AI and Anthony were essentially competing against each other while Billups will make Anthony much better, IMO. And again, Billups isn't replacing AI as much as he's replacing Anthony Carter. Makes a lot of sense for Denver methinks.

massive cap space next year for the pistons, this is a great deal for them. they might not make the ECF this year, but they are going to have a ton of cap space next year, a good core with prince, stucky, maxiell, and rip, and 30 million to play with before they even hit the cap.

why wouldn't they do this deal?

now the nuggets....that i get less. iof your going to sell off your best defensive guy, why then go get a defensive PG?

Coming from a Detroit fan, I can't say that I care for this trade. However, I've heard Denver is planning on buying out Mcdyess's contract, which means he might be back here in Detroit. If that is true, I really don't mind this trade at all. The reason being, you're only losing Billups, as great as he is and believe me he is one of my favorite players, he is getting older. This allows Detroit to start Stuckey next year if they don't bring back Iverson, which means cap space, not to mention they might let Rasheed walk or if he stays true to his word, he will retire. Also, there is still plenty of time till the trade deadline, who knows if Detroit is planning on trading someone like Hamilton, which would allow Stuckey in the lineup, and Iverson at the two.

It doesn't make sense now, but I think Joe D knows what he is doing.

Better trade for Denver than for Detroit. But I'm happy to see AI back East. I think the Nuggets are now a serious playoff contender in the West.

Oh, by the way, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this but if Antonio McDyess does get bought out, we must go after him.

Neither did Doc and Pierce.

I'm not bothered, a championship is bigger than a personal spat and McDyess would be a superb addition to this team.

Meh, they said the same about KG and Perk a year ago. Once you´re on the same team and you have the same goal, you will find a way to get along.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

"If" Mcdyess were to get bought out by Denver, and signed with Detroit, what are your opinions on this trade? Would you fear the Pistons more? Or less? Dumars has done the same thing with Lindsey Hunter, where he went to Boston (without ever coming to Boston) and than just went back to Detroit.
