Not this year. Calderon, Arenas, Wade, Allen, Redd, Joe Johnson, Hamilton, Billups, Ford, Carter and Iguodala are all going to have a better shot at taking the guard spots this year.

Arenas had off-season surgery, again, on his knee.  He's out till early December at best ... and with his history of coming back, my guess is he'll ease into things by Jan.  No shot at All-star game.

have...have you seen some of the fan vote ins the previous five years? shaq got into one and he only played 5 games in the first half. last year D-wade got in, and he was average at best as he rehabbed from injury.

gilbert is a popular player, he'll get a ton of votes, even injured.

the all star game isn't about talent or stats, its about popularity.

I think what will hamper Rondo in getting to the All-Star game is the perceived amount of better guards in the Eastern Conference. I don't think he won't play All-Star caliber basketball in the future, I just think the nationwide perception of his game will be that it won't be as good as name stars that play the guard position in the Eastern Conference.

Now maybe another championship run where Rondo has a consistent and dominant role at the point, especially at the defensive end, would go a long way towards changing that perception. Defensive PGs have made the All-Star team in the past.

From what you say, it's almost as if fan voting makes sense. ::)

Arenas has been voted as a starter before, he could be again. Otherwise, who do the starting votes go to? Last year Wade and Kidd got the votes, Wade will again this year, the next spot, in theory, should go to Ray Allen (third in votes last year).

While I agree with everyone that it will be tough, it could be very important that he does.  Having Rondo make an All-Star team before the free-agent class of the summer of 2010 might help sway someone to sign here.  PP and KG will be 35/33 years old and it would be nice to promote Rondo as a star in the league.

Yeah, but to promote Rondo as a star, he has to play like a star.  And who knows if he'll ever reach that level.  He seems like he'll be a solid starting point guard for years, but I don't know if he'll ever be an allstar.

Defensively he was an All-Star last year.  If K.C. Jones can be a hall of famer, then Rondo can be an All-Star.

24 Pts 4 rebounds and 7 assists is average? Wow, high standards.

thats his stats for the entire year, i don't belive we vote for all stars based on potential for a good second half.

his first half was subpar, to be expected since he was coming back off injury

his FIRST half stats were

DNP-9 games to start, 12 total.

19 points or so for next two months

5 assists

and 6 rebounds.

solid numbers, but not a starting all star, as voted by the fan in the joke that is the all star game.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/gamelog?playerId=1987

he had an excellent seconed half and now appears to be back to 100% for this year. but don't lie to yourself an dthink what he put up in the first half, which were sub-ray allen numbers in everything but rebounds, was worth the starting role on that squad.

good try though.

Rajon still isn't there yet, and the are a lot of guards who are probably more deserving. To make it he has to improve his consistency, and finishing around the rim. If he were to somehow make the team it would be off of coaches selection, not votes.

Off-Topic: I don't think Rajon hit a single jumper during pre-season. Kind of worries me.

He hit a jumper in the Manchester, NH game against the Rockets.  I remember because I almost fell out of my chair.

I'm confused. How did he have an excellent second half when he didn't play in March and April and most of February?

DWade stat line for Dec 2007: 20.1 Pts. 5.1 Ast

December 2007 : 27.1 pts  7.8 ast

January 2008 : 25.8 6.7

Those are the numbers before the all-star month of February. I'm really not sure what numbers you were looking at especially when those are directly from the website you linked to. I am especially confused by the statement that he had a better second half of the year. he didn't play.

Sorry if I come off as overly defensive. My dad is a Marquette grad, so I've been a Dwade fan for a long time. Speaking of which, can someone explain to me why Larry wanted Jack in  that trade with Portland when Diener played well in the reserve PG role?

he didn't play in febuary when they sht him down, but his points and assists rise through the roof in late december and through january, which is what accounts for his nearly 6 PPG average rise post allstar.

and im not a D-wade basher, i liek him alot. the all star game is a joke as long as fans get to vote though.

he DESTROYED guys with better years than him in voting to get that first spot on the team.

shaq did the same thing 2 (3?) years ago when he sat out most of the first half.

fans voting for all star games is retarded, and a marketing gimmick. it doesn't actually reflect who is an all star. it reflects who does good commericals and sportscenter interviews.

I don't think so.
maybe next year if he keeps on improving like the the last one.
I doubt very much that 4 players of the same team can be selected.

Four players from the same team have been selected more than once. I can think of twice in the last 10 years two teams that sent four players to the All-Star Game. In 1998 (I think) four Lakers were selected. (Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Kobe and Shaq) and again in 2006 when Pierce go to play with 4/5th's of the Pistons' starting five at the All-Star game. (Sheed, Big Ben, Rip, and Billups)

A defensive minded player can certainly make the All-Star game (Mutumbo, Ratliff, Wallace) but they seem almost always to be big guys though. You never see a Bruce Bowen or a Shane Battier.

  • Anything is possible
also hurts him that he's a defensive oreinted PG. with the all star selection being a glorified popularaity contest thanks to fan voting, it doesn't matter if your a good defender if your not throwing down 30 point games and flashy dunks.

i hate the all star selection process. mabey shaq will make it again this year when he's only played in 5 games!

such a joke.

The fans don't vote for the reserves, only the starters. The coaches pick the benches.

I don't think Rajon is going to find himself on the All-Star team this year. I think he can be that kind of guy in the future, but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Rondo is a long way from becoming an all star. I sometimes get caught up in his abilities and potential when he is wrecking havoc alongside the big 3. But then I see him play with the role players and you see just how much of a mistake prone kid he still is and how he doesn't command tempo yet.

I think we'll still see lots of 3-10 FG, 2-4 FT, 8 point games.

Still he keeps getting closer to being a star.
