What do you guys think?  I think he certainly has the talent and will get there at some point, but is it too soon?  Too many stars on the team and not enough stats?  Too much EConf talent?  Would something like 14ppg 7.5a 6rb 2st and a nice to/a ratio do it on a 1st in the conference team?

My bet is not this year, but I think he will be knocking on the door.

Not this year. Calderon, Arenas, Wade, Allen, Redd, Joe Johnson, Hamilton, Billups, Ford, Carter and Iguodala are all going to have a better shot at taking the guard spots this year.

Rajon is deserving and, well, after all, someone has to represent the Celtics......   :-*

I think it'll be tough for Rajon to be an all-star in any given year, and tougher even now while the Big 3 are in town. He simply currently doesn't have the offensive power to get into the all-star, and I don't think he ever will.

Look at Deron Williams last year... given, the West was very deep in the PG position, but that should tell you how tough it would be for Rondo.

"Ever" is a long time, so he might make it in the future, but I don't see any chance of it in the near future. That's assuming others remain healthy.

While I agree with everyone that it will be tough, it could be very important that he does.  Having Rondo make an All-Star team before the free-agent class of the summer of 2010 might help sway someone to sign here.  PP and KG will be 35/33 years old and it would be nice to promote Rondo as a star in the league.

also hurts him that he's a defensive oreinted PG. with the all star selection being a glorified popularaity contest thanks to fan voting, it doesn't matter if your a good defender if your not throwing down 30 point games and flashy dunks.

i hate the all star selection process. mabey shaq will make it again this year when he's only played in 5 games!

such a joke.

I doubt it. I don't think he will score enough - and his assist total while excellent in our offense won't raise eyebrows around the league.

As mean as this is to say - this is to our benefit. If Rondo was to make the all-star team his salary would skyrocket.

When they begin playing some defense in the all-star game, he'll make it!

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
No.  If he was the only Celtic deserving of a spot, maybe (if he doubled his statistical output), but Garnett and Pierce at the very least will make it impossible for him unless he has an incredible breakout year (as in 18 ppg, 10 assists)
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

If Rondo is averaging 10 assists or more and the Celtics are off to an even more ridiculous start than last year the league might feel compelled to send 4 Celtics to the game.  Last year Ray only made it as a replacement.

But really, if Rondo is to be an All-Star, first he'll have to play like one.  He's been good and improving, but he's no an All Star at this point.  It would be a big jump.
Yup

He'd need for those "Yo Got Rondo'd" ads to go into VERY heavy circulation on national games.

But with Kidd out of the East, the automatic PG vote on the ballot in a ton of fans heads is now very much open season.

I guess Billups is now the "marquee" name at PG on the ballot in the East.

Actually, do they just have a GUARD vote or is broken down by PG/SG?
Yup

Just a guard vote.

The format is select two guards, two forwards, and a center.(when voting)

Rajon still isn't there yet, and the are a lot of guards who are probably more deserving. To make it he has to improve his consistency, and finishing around the rim. If he were to somehow make the team it would be off of coaches selection, not votes.

Off-Topic: I don't think Rajon hit a single jumper during pre-season. Kind of worries me.

I don't think so.
maybe next year if he keeps on improving like the the last one.
I doubt very much that 4 players of the same team can be selected.
