Would JJ Redick be a good fit?

I just read the following snippet from Hollinger about JJ Redick:

I didn't have room for "preseason breakouts who will go back to the bench once the real games start." Otherwise Redick totally would have made it. In all seriousness, he can play if he's traded to a team that needs shooting and can cover for his D. I don't think Orlando's personnel allows it to do the latter.

It got me thinking, hey, we have a team that can cover for his d. The kid can shoot, and I know some people love to hate the Blue Devils, but Coach K teaches the game.

I am not proposing a trade, but would JJ be a good fit behind Allen? Would he be a better fit than TA or Pruitt?

He wouldn't be a "better" fit, but I wouldn't mind taking a chance on his next season. I've always thought he could play, he just hasn't done well in his pro-career. There's still time for him, and he's definitely an NBA player in my opinion.

I don't think so.  TA is a defensive monster.  Losing him would be rough for that 2nd team.  Also, we are already thin on backups for Rondo.  Losing Pruitt (especially the way he has been playing) would also be rough for the team.  One injury to Rondo or House could mean major minutes for Pruitt, and we can't afford to have Tony Allen running the point.

Are we talking about another Dan Dickau?  Ray Allen and Eddie House not only have an excellent outside shot, they also have a quick release and play the big "D". Part of Pruitt's lure is his one-on-one defense which thwarts PG penetration thereby preserving interior defenses.  Until JJ Redick shows a more complete game, I'd say pass!

he's a great shooter, but he has a limited handle and can't create his own offense. we allready have spot up shooters, so i don't see why we need another one.

Although I am fan of Reddick's outside shot the same as everyone else, the problem is his measurables. When he came out of college I was surprised how short his standing reach was. Essentially he is a 6'2 player with no leaping skills despite his "height" . (Height is the most useless measurable as you don't block or shoot shots from the top of your head. It is wingspan and standing reach that count). Reddick can really be only used in short minutes to stretch a zone defense. He might be a better shooter than House but House has the quickness to get into a guard's body preventing him from getting to a spot where he can shoot over House. Reddick has yet to prove he can do the same.

It would be an OK trade if the trade yielded a future 1st rounder and Reddick was the speciality shooter as the 12th man. Otherwise he isn't a good fit. (I would like to see the Celtics take a risk to get a future 1st as when the big 3 gets old, things could get bad fast.)

exactly the point, we have 2 of the best shooters in the league in allen and house, Redick will not find playing time here if he cant get it in orlando, especially with bad D.

After the Morrison thread, this seems like a natural companion.  We may go through every overrated College Player of the Year candidate from the horrible 2006 draft.  Can Shelden Williams be far behind?

Basically, what others have said.  Depending on how you feel about certain players on the roster the three main areas of need are a veteran big man with length, a true back-up point, and an experienced veteran three to back-up Pierce.  None of these are crisis situations right now, but using any chip to fill a bench shooter role which House can do already does not fit well.

he's not an NBA player. as someone menitoned above with me, he can't get his own shot, can't put the ball on the floor, and can't defened.

at duke, he had 4 slashers and he was a great spo shooter.

in the NBA, teams aren't going to play zone with inferior talent like in the NCAA. thats why he can't get on the floor.

think off eddie if eddie couldn't dribble or move off the ball effectivly. thats JJ reddick.
