Too bad he didn't show something so we could stick it to Portland.

Is anyone suprised?

If nothing else, Danny ultimately gave Darius a shot to prove that he could still play basketball.  He has a legitimate chance to make some NBA roster, and for that he ought to be extremely thankful to Boston and particularly Mr. Ainge.

I hope he gets a shot with another team. Not to stick it to Portland, but to reward him for his hard work at rehabbing his injury.  Don't give up, Darius Miles.

It's a shame, because I did have hope he could come back, but after seeing him this preseason, it was clear that at best he was a long way away, and may be completely toast.

He may find a way to latch on to a team with less depth, but for the moment, I think he just needs to concentrate on rehabbing, and getting his explosion back.

No big surprise, and the right thing to do.  When the only compelling reason to keep a guy is to screw another organization it's tough to justify (unless that organization happens to be the Lakers)

I have to say, Darius seemed to have a great attitude the whole time he was here.  As far as his game, he seemed to

be overcompensating for his rust and lack of explosiveness with hustle and pretty solid defense.  His potential to be star may be

gone, but I think he could still be a solid role player on many lower to mid level teams.  Time will tell how much rust he can shake

off.  Good luck to him. :)

count me as happily wrong on this issue, as i thought gabe might get squeezed out.

hopefully darius catches on somewhere, because as happy as i am to keep gabe, he showed that he can still play. im sure some, how to put this nicely... less talented teams, could give him the minutes he'll need to see if he can go.

good luck darius!

I think the cut was the right thing to do, because he is clearly not ready.  Kudos to Miles for trying to come back from the injury.  Despite his bad rep, he came to Boston ready to work hard.  By all accounts his workouts went well, but he just doesn't have his game legs back. It says a lot about the guy that he will receive $18M whether he plays or not, and yet he is still out there trying to play and latch on with a team.  For his sake, I hope he can play professionally again.

I am pretty sure he doesn't get any of that money unless he plays 10 games.   Right?

I told you so!!!!

Sorry, I know that's rather undignified of me but I did catch a rather large load of crap over what was perceived to be a Darius Miles "Hater" attitude. I had nothing against the man I just thought it the logical and intelligent thing to assume he stood no chance of making the team. It's pretty obvious that 3 orthopedic surgeons know more about orthopedics than a lot of people here gave them credit for.

It is too bad because this team could use a player in the makeup of what Darius Miles was before he got hurt. I think that's why a lot of people fooled themselves about his actual chances of making the team. They remember what was and expected that to return. He just couldn't physically do it.

And just for future reference can we all agree that Danny Ainge gives out non-guaranteed contracts because he's almost certain the player won't make the team and not because he sees so much ability and potential that he thinks the player might mae the team. I think that was the crux of a large amount of the arguments as to why Miles was going to make the team and for yet another year, the players given the non-guaranteed contracts are not on the team.

Miles receives the $18 million no matter what. It is what is left over from his salary with Portland. Right now an insurance company is paying him that money but if he makes it into 10 games either this year or next that money will then have to be paid by Portland and the $18 million will go back on the Portland cap number.

He didn't get cut because he physically was a step slower, he got cut because there was no roster spot with Scal and Cassell being two of Doc's biggest infatuations. Even a Miles who isn't athletic anymore does more than Scalabrine.

He got cut because he was about 3 steps slower, and without his athleticism, he simply is not a good basketball player.

Slightly disappointed he couldn't prove himself, but also relieved we don't go into the season with a major doubt like him at someone else's expense. For the record, not surprised either.

I pretty much expected this; you don't have multiple doctors label your injury career-ending and then find a productive role on a championship team.  It was worth the gamble, but the odds of Miles ever making the roster were extremely long from the beginning.
