I heard the reported details of this contract and was thinking to myself; do you think all of the luxurious perks they would be giving to Kobe would actual be conducive to him being being as productive a basketball player as possible?
They are pretty much par of course for soccer players in Europe, and other sports stars.
Kobe would be a trophy for the team to show off and help fill seats.
Yeah, the Greek league would probably increase its average attendance by 1.000 per game. That would almost double their current average attendance. Maybe they can get LeBron and overcome the spanish 2nd division.
I don't think Kobe would like to have less status than some random soccer player - and I mean dozens of them. I suppose he'd be a celebrity in Pireus, but in Europe, overall, he'd be second banana to, say, Lance Armstrong, to refer another American sportsman.
Good for his ego? I don't think so...
