"It's being reported that Olympiakos is preparing to offer Kobe an absurd $83 million contract - untaxed - next summer that will include these nice extra throw-ins:

In that contract there will be an incredible list of benefits, a villa in the Mediterranean Sea, pay all the taxes at the expense of the club, to pay the bills for the staff and for a private boat for Kobe Bryant. The article also says that they are planning to form Olympiakos into an NBA style club with a court that fits 15-20 thousand seats and a private jet for the team."

I heard the reported details of this contract and was thinking to myself; do you think all of the luxurious perks they would be giving to Kobe would actual be conducive to him being being as productive a basketball player as possible?

Does a guy having a personal belly dancer to fan him down during timeouts (not an actual part of the alleged contract, but a swell idea) lead to him being a better player?

Kobe would be a trophy for the team to show off and help fill seats.

I'm sure his ego could handle it.

Yeah, the Greek league would probably increase its average attendance   by 1.000 per game. That would almost double their current average attendance. Maybe they can get LeBron and overcome the spanish 2nd division.

I don't think Kobe would like to have less status than some random soccer player - and I mean dozens of them. I suppose he'd be a celebrity in Pireus, but in Europe, overall, he'd be second banana to, say, Lance Armstrong, to refer another American sportsman.

Yeah, pretty much. Somewhat similar to Chelsea and Abrahamovich. Not exactly the same because Olympiakos owners bleed red since they were kids and are mostly interested in the "grandeur" of the club.

But again, this is not happening.

i don't think he has the guts to leave. shaq will taunt him forever for that 4th ring.

Well Kobe wanted to be the best ever but the Jordan shadow lingers over him for eternity and after the finals he realized this. He might leave because no one harasses him overseas. Kobe's defense is way overrated now and doesn't have the same 1st step as he used too and he only shoots with 4 fingers now. Kobe has actually played over 1000 nba games b4 he turned the age of 30. WOW
