POB looks like a great pickup so far.

He will be a great big off the bench but just like someone mentioned... Acie Earl  :-X

Have not caught his act yet for Celts, can't wait to check him out. Followed him during the draft, when we considered taking him.

Do you think he has the upside to compete with Bynum?  Or am I dreaming?

OBryant is a shot blocker something Acie Earl was never known for (what was he known for, bad haircut?)
I think he's a great p/u depending on work ethic which should be hard not to do with a frontline of Powe, Davis, Perk & KG nearly killing him every practice and depending on development.  I like his sky hook he shows, shot blocking and some far the rebounding is nice & surprising.
great job again ainge

Ya you're dreaming.  He does have the upside to compete with Perk though.

For one, any big man (6'10" or taller) with a consistent hook shot is a threat, regardless of anything else. So, in itself, it's deal. Add a vertical leap to that and you get a Kareem Sky Hook... unstoppable.

Now, add a bit of a shot blocking presence against a pre-existing shot blocker (everyone forgets that KG will be by his side), and you've got a great player off the bench. Oh, and did I forget to mention Pierce?

All and all, it's a good place to be. A guy who can grow with the three 3 and Perkules and eventually find himself in a key playoff situation.

at first i didn't know what to make of the deal. i didn't know if the kid just got paid and flaked out or if he just didn't matchup well with G.S. style of play. i suspected it was the later reason but you still never know until you see the guy play more often. from what i have seen in the preseason i have been very pleased. he's not some big guy that gets lost in the mix. he put himself in position to get shots. that oop which Allen gave him last night was possiable because instead of POB simply posting up the little guy he got behind him and that gave allen a high lane to lob the ball. things like that added with shot blocking make him a solid backup center. he seems to know the defensive rotations and responds well v.s. starting bigmen. that tells me is perkins goes down then we should not miss much, if anything.

his man defense and shot blocking were his biggest features coming out of college. many teams suspected that he would only get better at offense because he was so athletic for his size. it seems to have been stunted by that time he spent with the warriors. i fully expect him to log big minutes over the course of the season. Perk will most likely keep up those foul issues so seeing him early in games should become expected.

with him in the game i see a change in playing style compared to what they did when perk was out last year. i also see Powe benifiting from having another big next to him. teams will not be willing to leave POB around the basket.

What I saw in last night's game (and in others) is that he is not quick to react.  I think it was Jackson who shot right over him a couple of times.  Jackson got his shot off in less time than it took Paddy to even move his arms.

Overall, I like what I have seen in terms of a young back-up center but I have some concerns about it 1 on 1 defense based on what I have seen so far.  He is great as a weak side defender so teams are going to figure this out.  Look for Paddy's man to have the ball in his hands a lot.

I've been fairly critical of both the off-season plan and the signing of POB, but so far, so good.  I think he's nowhere near as good as some have suggested, and I still question his instincts, but he's looked like a perfectly adequate backup center, which is exactly what we need.

Those hook shots impressed me. I'd be great if he could do that consistently. I had to smile when Tommy went crazy over them.

POB will probably be a little inconsistent this year, but still, he was a steal for how much we paid for him.

I loved the hook shots!

He's looked Great. He's better than most centers on other teams benches. I'm happy he's not the goofy clumsy big center with some potential that I had pictured in my mind. I like his demeanor on and off the court for the most part he seems to be focused and knows what's going on. I hope he can't keep this up or better yet improve during the regular season.

I love how tall he is. I also love his passing skills. He is a little Sabonis like.

That is the point here, he is adequate. Expecting anything else for his price is pretty unreasonable.

He's better than most centers on other teams benches.

This is the big deal for me. How many other teams have a decent young backup center that is noticeably better?

Throw in the upside and he is a bargain. A definite upgrade over Pollard if he stays healthy. 8)
