The kid has looked really really good in the preseason so far.  If Perk goes down and gets in foul trouble, I can have some confidence that POB can pick up the slack while doing a good job pulling down boards.  What did we give up for him?  He's a true 7 footer that doesn't look like a stiff out there.  That kind of guy is valuable in this league!  And he's still young with room for improvement on top of that!  Mark my words, POB is going to be one of Danny's underrated pickups as the season progresses.  I guess the only question now is, who is going to be the 3rd string center?

yeah, a lot to be optimistic about, right?  We didn't give up anything for him  at all, really (some luxury tax?) because even though we are over the cap, he signed for a Posey-esq 2 year vet min contract where he can opt out of the second year.  So I like what I see, but also have a feeling this may end in a year.  We couldn't resign him for the money a center who has had a good year could sign for.  Whatever... Lets have a great year with him

O'Bryant doesn't have an option. It's House who has the option for the second year.

POB's been good, but be careful with the hype. Remember Mr. October, Acie Earl?

So far so good with O'Bryant.  Young, mobile 7 footers with some offensive skill and shot blocking ability don't come along for free usually.  Danny lucked out.

Nellie is looking foolish right now.  Hopefully he will still look foolish by the end of the season.

I'd still like to see a third string center though.  Shot blocking centers are what anchors our defense.  I heard Dwayne Jones might get cut from Orlando.  I'd like to see Miles and Scal get cut and sign Dwayne Jones if we can't get Bonzi Wells.  Not like that's going to happen though.

I'm loving Patty right now though.

So far it looks excellent, but it's still very early. O'Bryant has some very good tools though. His length and athleticism could make him a valuable member of our defense if he picks up the defensive schemes. And I didn't know he had a jumper in his arsenal. If he can play good defense, rebound and knock down a 15 foot jumper he'll go a long way to replacing PJ. And if he can develop that hookshot, which is unblockable with his length, that's just gravy.

I expect O'Bryant to be very up and down this season. He is still young and has gotten very little playing time in his career. Hopefully by the end of the season he becomes a reliable part of the rotation. I'd rather have this scenario then a stiff center who qualifies just because he is a veteran.

Those hook shots impressed me. I'd be great if he could do that consistently. I had to smile when Tommy went crazy over them.

POB will probably be a little inconsistent this year, but still, he was a steal for how much we paid for him.

It's too early to tell what he can contribute this season .... but he's definitely given reason for some optimism. Good start by the big fella.

It looks like the Center position will actually be an upgrade from last year,

i can't get over how many people on the board labeled paddy O' a bust before he ever suited up. haven't we learned by now to give danny and co. some talent scouting credit.

You would think.  I mean the guy only had to be better than Pollard for it to be an upgrade.  I'm not going to go crazy but, he might be an upgrade over Perk.

This might be just what Perk needs on those nights he seems to coast.

I think POB did a fine job last nite, but did you all notice the defense Leon played on Ilgauskas?
