I went to UMass until last spring. I can say that I went through the rough years at UMass, but one thing was sure. UMass was like one big support group for the time being. Not everyone was into the Celtics when they were losing, but the ones that were into it we knew they were true fans. Us diehard fans knew each other and it was good to know that you can ask those guys how the Celtics are doing and they would all be following it, even when they were losing.
Then draft day came and I remember walking around campus and everyone had their Celtics gear on, which was pretty cool. There was an air of something good coming, then that horrible day. I remember sitting on the PVTA going back to my house and I was so angry, and then there was this other kid that was really p---ed too, and we had a bonding moment due to our anger.
Then the Celtics started losing and more and more Celtics gear started coming out. However, the coolest thing that happened was that whenever I saw those diehard fans, we didnt have to say a word, all we had to is smile and point to one of our Celtics gear and a fist pump. The other cool thing was the people that didnt care about the Celtics, but recognized that you were a fan. This guy at a bar came up to me and said, "Dude, I remember you talking about the Celtics last year and I just hope you are enjoying this because you are a true fan."
Anyway, Drive for 17 special is on! GO CELTICS!!!
