I'm starting to feel sorry for Cubs fans...

After getting ripped apart by the Chicago media for being so quiet in last nights loss to the Dodgers in Game 1. Cubs fans started this game blaring! I mean loud... only to watch their beloved Cubs go down 5-0 in the 2nd inning...

I always said, back when the Red Sox and Cubs were both the "lovable" losers, the difference between the two was that the Red Sox would do something so incredibly improbable to suck you in and make you believe in them and love them, then they'd let you down, whereas the Cubs would just plain let you down.

Definitely enjoy it while it lasts.  Here's hoping until the Series when they get swept by the Sox and Manny goes 0-16. 


Just kidding boys.  Dodgers have been the most impressive so far this week.  Good combination of fielding, hitting, and pitching going on right now.

The Sox at least had the right mix of guys...the "one game at a time" and "why not us" mentality, and the perfect manager for the job. Meanwhile the Cubs look completely tight and their manager is calling out players to the media. The Cubs are checked out and will need a serious Dodger collapse to have a prayer. These are two teams headed in opposite directions right now.

It starts at the top. Why does Soriano lead off? Why is Rich Harden lined up to only pitch one game this series? Seems like a lot of overthinking for a team that had plenty of time to line up their rotation. If Dempster, Z and Harden is the way they wanted it then they deserve every disgraceful beating they take.

The best World Series stories are as follows:

3) Phillies VS. Red Sox - Let's keep in mind that the city of Brotherly Love is relative to Boston as far as fandom and has not seen a professional championship in 25 years! 

2) Cubs VS. Red Sox - 100 Year anniversary of winning it all (1908) against a team that once shared that inept stage.

1) Dodgers VS Red Sox - So *Manny* storylines, Nomar, Torre, Lowe, owner from Beantowm... Heck even Bill Miller is a member of that coaching staff!

So, Brewers vs. Sox rates 0 on your list?  As a long-suffering Brewer fan, getting to the playoffs for only the second time ever (no, strike season '81 doesn't really count where they were screwed by the commissioner) is a pretty big deal.  Ahead of Phillies/Sox at least.

I'd like to see the Phillies make it, if only because I live down here and a lot of my friends follow the team.  That being said...  Phillies fans are pretty lame.  I know Philadelphia fans have the reputation of being passionate, but I don't really see that...  I was at a game last week, in the middle of a playoff race, and the fans were basically dead for 75% of it. 

One thing Phillies fans *do* do is boo at the first sign of trouble.  In terms of being supportive, though, I can't say that they're anything special.  As Jimmy Rollins noted, Phillies fans are frontrunners.

I was originally rooting for the Dodgers.  I used to like the Cubs, up until their fans started a ridiculous argument back around 2003 about which team was more cursed.  For one thing, there's no such thing as a curse.  But with the Cubs, when you've only won 7 home playoff games since 1914, when Wrigley Field opened up, that's not a curse, that means you've had really bad teams.

But back to my point.  I was rooting for the Dodgers up until that grand slam in game 1, and TBS almost immediately panned to the crowd and showed a Cubs fan who had to be at least in his 70's, and he looked dejected.  And then I thought about it.  There Cubs fans his age and older that not only have never witnessed the Cubs win it all, but also don't have a memory of them even being in the World Series.  That's sad.  If the Red Sox can't win it this year, I'd root for the Cubs.  Although it seems like it might be too late.  But you never know.

To tell you the truth, the series I'd like to see the most would be a Sox/Rays series.  They played some really tight battles in theor last two series, and the Rays stood up to the test well.  I just think it would some great baseball, and a nice story line too.

From a pure baseball sense that series would be the best.

Sorry, J, but nope, I do not hail from Brooklyn.  However, it is the source of the Dodger connection - my father grew up there...will that suffice?    There are a few folks around home who think I've got no excuse for rooting for a Boston team either, and just like with the Dodgers, I just picked 'em up from Pops back in the day...only I don't have an explanation for that one.

On another note, TBS' coverage of this series thus far has assured me that I won't need to be changing the quote from Professor Weinman in my signature anytime soon.  Dick Stockton is a joke.

After watching the two NLDS games yesterday, is anyone else convinced, as I am, that it doesn't really matter who comes out of the National League, that Tampa, the Angels and the Red Sox should probably be able to beat every team in the NL by at the very least a 4 games to 1 margin?

I just don't see a team in the National League that has three pitchers to throw at an American league team like the Sox do with Lester/DiceK/Beckett, the Angels do with Lackey/Santana/Saunders or the Rays do with Kazmir/Garza/Shields. Also, I find their offenses to be pretty weak.

Look for another AL drubbing of the NL in the WS. That's my take and honestly, I'm glad the Cubs are losing because I think they stand zero chance of beating an AL club this year anyway, even if they did make it to the WS. Let's hope that if they ever do make it to another World Series that it will be the time they win it all. Lose now Cubs, it will save all those poor tortured fans a lot of heartache.
