Hate to post another story on Manny Ramirez, but here's a pretty long piece on Manny by Bill Simmons on ESPN. It's pretty interesting (it also helps that I'm a huge Manny supporter and that I'm also cheering for the Dodgers now in addition to the Red Sox).

I heard its an epic.

I'm over Manny.  Let him hit nine zillion home runs, as long as it doesn't get in the Sox way.

It's all roses when things are going well for Manny.  Let the announcers gush away.

And don't forget the Dodger fans!  It's been a two-month love affair for us with this guy, and here's hoping that doesn't change anytime soon...

Speaking of which, I need to find someone who can magically turn my straight short hair into some flowing dreads...

I think it's the best that Simmons has ever written... Then again I always liked Manny.

So, the point of all that was...  it was all Scott Boras' fault?  And who hired Boras again?

Manny quit on the team, like a classless punk.  There's no justification for that, as much as Simmons might try to enable his behavior.

I was on the trade Manny bandwagon once he started this most recent chapter of antics.  I would have suspended him and then traded him.  I think Simmons was giving Manny way to much slack.  The article was well written but not accurate in my opinion.  The Sox are fine, Manny is fine, and Boris is evil.  Let's move on.

I think his point was that Manny has the brain of a child and therefore was defenseless from Scott Boras's manipulation.

I enjoyed the Theo blast, because its the first time I've heard that analogy to Manny quiting on the sox.

What was the front office supposed to do?  Just trade him without explaining why?  They knew he wasn't hustling.  They knew he didn't want to be here.  They had to present that to the fans.

Manny isn't Rainman, he can function.  He's also not a saint, he has a temper.  So Manny doesn't get off without talking most of the blame for forcing a trade.  But Scott Boras should be recognized as the devil, that's all he's saying really.

Get over it dude he didn't want to be in Boston.  Manny isn't any of the great Boston players he's exactly what he is.  A slow witted pampered fabulous hitter who didn't like being questioned.  Sorry Billy swing a miss.

Not the Scott Boras isn't a complete scumbag that would sell his mother up the river to make a buck.

Billy just can't believe that someone wouldn't want to play for the great Red Sox.  Heaven forbid...

Theo resigned, meaning he didn't expect to get paid.  Manny quit, while still expecting his full salary.  That's a huge difference, and made it a pretty poor comparison in my opinion.

No one put a gun to manny's head to sign with the sox but he did. And i remember reading that he told pedro after the 1st freaking month he couldn't take it in Boston.

whatever the case manny had an extremely good career as a redsox cept the last two years where he was taking it easy imo. (if he played the way he did in the 2nd half for the dodgers all eyar long he could have been easily won a triple crown).

I feel bad for dodger fans cuz near the end of his contract with them he will complain again and prob get traded somewhere else.

Manny ultimately belongs in the AL as a dh if he wants to have a long career

The guy is a great player but definitely has multiple personalities

One of the stipulations of the Manny trade was that the Dodgers would NOT pick up those options, making him an FA this offseason, where alot speculate he'll sign with an AL team as a DH. Most likely he'll go the highest bidder. Maybe he'll stay with LA. Who knows? I don't even know what "stipulation" means, anyways.

It was also the last day of his contract when he resigned.  I take it back, that wasn't a really a good analogy, after I did some research.  He was negotiating for a new contract and he didn't get the one he wanted so he played hardball.

I stand corected.  It's not the same as Manny.

Simmons is ridiculously off the mark trying to put the blame for what happened this year in Boston with Manny on Boras' shoulders. All he has to do is look back over the years when Jeff Moorad was Manny's agent and count the amount of times Manny quit on this team, came down with a bad hammy, had one of his twelve grandmothers die and so on.

Where was Boras when all that was happening?

Manny desperately wanted the last two option years added to the original contract so that he could brag that he got a $200 million contract. He was responsible for those last two years being there. Now Manny probably never figured baseball would get to the point where those two years would appear affordable and that anyone would pick them up. But it did and suddenly Manny realized he might be stuck here for two more years. So he quit again.

That is all on Manny and has nothing to do with Boras. Boras was hired to get Manny out of those last two years because Manny didn't want to be here. Boras was not hired and then said "We have to get you out of this contract so that I can make money off you, Manny". It didn't happen that way.

And all you have to know to know that this is all true is that Boras still has a good working relationship with the Sox and that the team and manager have publicly come forward and said how much better of a team they are without Manny being there. I think that tells you all you need to know about who the bad guy was in the whole Manny affair.

Simmons should know this being the "knowledgeable" Boston writer that he is. ::)
