Does anyone remember the last time we took a Golden State center with great talent but questionable motivation? How'd that turn again?

3...2...1... Roy's head explodes.

Haha that's brutal.

I don't remember Wallace playing with the starters or being penciled in to start during the preseason.  (Yes, I realize of course that Perk is out.)  Nobody's expecting POB to be more than a backup center, but if he plays to his potential he's a solid 7' rotation player.

Hope it continues. The guy needs to put on some bulk; but should be a huge help if he can learn the system.

I seem to remember the coaching staff and then just about everyone except me and a few others on this site praising the abilities and talent of one Brandon Wallace. Lots of stuff written about him being played out of position in college and that the defense he learned there would make him a tough, defensive SF stopper. People went on and on and on about Brandon Wallace.

Then he didn't make the team.

Let's wait a couple of weeks before doing the same thing this year with the rookies and Pruitt, O'Bryant and Miles. With the exception of Miles, who doesn't have a guaranteed contract, they will all probably be on the roster and see little to no playing time. We are going to hear great things about all of them up until a few days before the season opener and then they will become afterthoughts on this team as a couple will probably go to the NBDL, one will be cut and the others will see sparse to no playing time.

Remember, this is the time that we hear how everyone is a potential All-Star. Let's let reality take over at the end of the month and then we can judge just how important any of these guys will be to this team this year.

Wallace did make the team; he was just cut some time into the season to make room for a veteran who could could contribute right away.

Not to burst anyone's bubble but you might want to consider the source of the news. It's the first week of camp. No coach, no matter how crappy a player is performing is going to say aloud, "Wow, why'd we even sign this guy?" Everything is still early, optimistic and rosy. I'm really indifferent to the news coming out of training camp unless it's about injuries or post injury performance. It's too difficult at this point to put much stock into what celtics.com is telling us.

Usually I'd agree with you, but Doc's always been pretty blunt.  He wouldn't say POB sucked, but he wouldn't give such a glowing review.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

IIRC, when Brandon was cut, we had 14 players under contract (including Wallace himself).

Well, I do think POB was brought here to replace Scot Pollard--Not PJ (who'll be here in time for the playoffs)...I'm pretty sure he'll be able to match Pollard's contribution--anything more would be a bonus.

Just ask yourself this, if the C's are a team with only 2 Centers, one of whom (Perk) is injured, then who is O'Bryant going up against while looking so good?

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I see no reason why POB can't blossom on the same track as Bynum. He has similar tools. I'm not saying hi will, but it is worth making the comparison. They are both similar in age, in size, and in reputation. Bynum was considered lazy his first season. Then Kobe lit a fire under him, motivating him to become one of the top future 5's in the NBA.  Sure, for every success like Bynum, there are 5-10 failures. But my point is, it is not out of the realm of reasonable expectations to think that POB can become are very good 5 in the NBA, especially playing with the likes of guys like our big 3.

Yup that is correct actually. After Wallace was cut we had 13 players under contract...eventually the remaining roster spots would be taken by Cassell and P.J.
