Should Celtics get in on upcoming PG trades?

With Tinsley and potentially Marbury on the blocks it makes sense to have the flexibility that Cassell could offer - not in a trade for either of these guys; but as part of a three way that would use Pruitt and Scal (or BBD/Powe). Pruitt as a backup PG (to NY or IND) and Scals contract to make the money work. The Heat need a veteran PG but they do not have much to offer unless Dorell Wright is in the mix (which I doubt, even though they just signed Matt Walsh). The Pacers seem pretty set at PG w/o Tinsley and need an active PF more that anything (DDB or Powe). We need a 3 or a 5, so would love to get someone like Wilson Chandler from NY (they are overstocked at the 3). Any thoughts?

Take a longer look at Tinsley and Marbury. Both talented players with more ego than game or maturity. Both organizations want to trade them away now but don't want to give them the justification of waiving or buying their contracts out. As for trades, with the players mentioned, we can't expect to get anything worth trading for at the 1,3,or 5 positions. I liked the idea of working on Livingston, but I'm not a trainer and haven't seen him since that nasty injury. NY doesn't have a SF that we could use or afford, or even a C that they're willing to expend. Indiana sits in that same boat.

I have an idea, but have yet to post it b/c it involves an unlikely team trading with us (Lakers)
Maybe something like...
LA sends Chris Mihm, Jordan Farmar, and Trevor Ariza
Boston sends Gabe Pruitt, Brian Scalabrine, BBD, and Tony Allen

We get a nice PG in Farmar, our proven backup Center Mihm, and great defender/spot up 3 point shooter in Ariza.
Scalabrine and Pruitt saga would be over, PF logjam gone with BBD, and Allen could start over in LA with Kobe.

LA gets a good defender and explosive player in Tony Allen,growing BBD,team player Scal, and another PG project with Pruitt. They only really lose Farmar since Ariza didn't see minutes b/c of Kobe and Farmar gets benched quick

We've already seen the "inept" Chris Mihm as a Celtic and I hardly see the wisdom or need to repeat.  Veteran experience can be overrated when it comes to marginal talent (I rate Chris Mihm about even with Mark Blount, without the attitude).

Your trade essentially delivers BBD and Tony Allen for Farmer and a spot-up shooter.  I'd definitely pass!

I dont think the Lakers consider a deal with us and are not giving up Ariza.

I dont see the Knicks trading Chandler unless it is part of a bigger package.

Why even consider a couple of 'heads' like Tinsley or Marbury. We already have one in Cassell who is a much nicer guy and better teammate. Those two would mess with our younger guys and that would be a bad thing. I would rather stick with Eddie House than either of them.

the laker's also aren't going to give up the guy the've tagged as derek fishers replacement at PG for tony freaking allen, who if they cared about, they could have gotten in FA for peanuts.

the lakers would never do this trade.  I think they are high on Farmar and Ariza.  Lowrey sounds good to me!

The preseason should give the Celtic's "braintrust" a better feel for the upside potential of Powe and BBD as well as the continuing rehab status of Tony Allen.  Potential star players show their upside rather early and one season (i.e., BBD) or two inconsistent seasons (Powe) hardly tell the whole story.

All of these players will work on their games in the offseason and their performance in preseason should clarify their upside potential. In Scals case, as a veteran, we knew rather early that his upside potential was limited and his flaws were also obvious.  So too will we learn if preseason acclimation will improve Cassell's game and his ability to assume a more team-oriented mindset.

The Lakers - Boston trade would be great for us but I cant understand for the life of me how it would be sufficient for Lakers!  In fact, I cant understand if any team would like to have Manboobs (Scalabrine) in their team unless he´s on his last year with us.  If I recall then he´s got this and one more left which isnt really a good bargaining chip.  Ariza and Farmar would be totally great for us and with Mihm as a backup C, they would fit the bill perfectly.  The Lakers would loooose big time on this trade and never accept something like this.  A bit too fantasy-based deal this one. 

I feel we need more addition to our squad and we are holding up cash in Brian Scalabrine and desperately need to move him soon.  We cannot allow Powe leave but Big Baby Davis and Gabe Pruitt are two players that could be added into any deal that involves Scalabrine.  What we need is right now is PG or a PF.  It would surprise me if we would win the title this year again with the team we have unless the Big Three will raise their game even further (which cant be done) and/or the other players will become big players this season.  O´Bryant and Miles will have a tough task filling the boots of Posey and PJ Brown let alone Tony Allen.  Trades need to be done but not to weaken the side but to strengthen us.
