Does this mean he's not as healthy as everyone assumes he is? Now I'm even more concerned about our Center situation.

It now makes sense the reported Danny offer for Portland's Przybilla.

Anyway, I think Perk will be fine.

hopefully he will be fine...but his shoulder seems to be a recurring problem and he has missed games because of it.

this operation does once more raise the spectre of a celtics team without perk. for a few games they can manage because of the big 3.5 (rondo = .5)

my worry is if the celtics need to play an extended stretch of games without the perk. will it put more wear and tear on KG? will they match up as well with the teams with good center?

anyway you look at this, it aint good. but we can hope it isnt a harbinger of upcoming trouble.

my question now is... what would the celtics look like without perk for 20 - 30 games?

(1) doubtful that POB would start and be a significant contributor. but who knows? i am wrong more often than right, and we can hope for miracle. maybe POB discovers a work ethic, the celtic's style of play fits his skill set, and he flourishes pulling down 6 rbs and putting up 12 points a game. but probably not.

(2) powe starting and KG at center? maybe, but the defense would drop off wouldnt it?

(3) big baby starting and KG at center? i dont think so with an average of 2.3 fouls in 13.3 minutes of playing time.

as i look at the above 3 scenarios, none them instill a great sense of confidence in me.

perk's problem shoulder is not likely to go away. i see this as THE potential weak spot for the team this year.

i hope danny gets on the phone soon and calls more than his mom.

I think it was during the Finals this year that (I believe) Van Gundy mentioned that Perk's shoulder injuries are the type the increase the likelihood of reoccurrence with each reoccurence.

I just hope they don't rush Perk too soon to return. Kind of like the Rockets are giving Battier an extra month to heal because they have Artest now.

The specter of BBD or Leon being the starting PF is not promising.  These guys just aren’t that good.  They can surprise for a couple of games or for a particular match-up but teams will figure out their weaknesses is they can plan for them and will abuse them.  KG is out of position too.  POB will be in a situation that he has never been in before, being surrounded by veterans and expected to contribute.  He’ll respond to that I am sure but not sure how much.  I have more hope for POB to come in at C than I do as either Leon or BBD as a starting PF (unless of course BBD has lost 25 pounds or Leon has grown 3 inches).  All of it may be mute if Perk's shoulder can hold together but I get the feeling that at best, Perk is going to miss time along the way.

They need to throw POB into the deep end and see if he can swim. At very least he can see what it takes to start in this league and see how much more work he needs to put in. This could be a blessing in disguise.

This is why adding a lazy, unmotivated lottery washout as Perk's backup was a terrible idea.

If Perkins misses any significant season time and Danny tries to persist with this ill-founded O'Blount experiment, this team will be challenged significantly.

Hopefully it won't be a lingering issue however I also believe it could be a blessing in disguise.   It will open up some playing time for PO to see exactly what we have here and also more playing time for BBD and Powe and increase their trade value for a possible future trade.

its time to bring Bill Russell out of retirement... he and KG already showed chemistry in that interview....

I was thinking the same when someone jokingly theorized that the Celts should sign Marbury then immediately cut him because the teams he leaves always improve after he's gone.  If we're going on that theory, why not just sign Russell since just about every team he ever played on won a championship? (plus it would be more fun to see him on the end of the bench than Scals - and Scals is pretty flippin fun)
Yup

Ditto.
