It seems to me like he was not 100% last year. Probably explains why he didn't do as well as we expected him to do. If he really was not fully healthy, that means he should be much better this season than he was last season.

I've heard stuff like this before.  It is useful ammunition against people who, riduculous as the statement sounds, like to say, ".... yes, but the Lakers would have won if Andrew Bynum was healthy".  But other than that, I don't know what the take-away is.... Let's just hope the starting 5 remain close to 100% for the year.
Celtics fan for life.

Yeah. I think our whole starting 5 had injuries by the time we got to the finals but no one was making excuses.

He's 33 now.  He could just be getting to the point where he will never be the same player that he used to be.  I hope he's 100% next season but I am definitely skeptical.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
By his own admission, Ray was healthy by around the All-star break, so I wouldn't expect him to be too much better than what we saw in the second half of the season.  (Which of course isn't bad; Ray had a *fantastic* second half of the year, until he hit his playoff slump.)

we knew about this already, since he did mention it during the season. i agree with the comment that doc made about using him more efficiently. i just don't know if the celtics can have 3 all-star players, playing like all-star players all at the same time. it seems that it's always the game of 2.

I don't see anything surprising about any of this. A jump shooter depends on his legs. You have double ankle surgery, need time to heal, need time to rehab and with this type of surgery he wasn't able to do anything to keep the muscles in his legs strong. He probably lost muscle mass as Larry Bird did after he had surgery to remove bone spurs from both achilles many years ago. And with all this he was 5 points below his average. As to Doc having to change the offense to facilitate Ray and as it not being so smooth a process all the time, so what. That team had never played together before. Ray played hurt. That's what champions do. Teams alter offenses to get the most of it's players. That's what a championship team does. And what happened? We won 66 games and are World Champions and that Banner is finally hanging where we want it. Ray's not going to be the player he used to be. Neither is PP or KG. But it's not because of age, it's because they are playing a different way. Their scoring, rebounding whatever averages will go down from what they were when they were the only guy on their respective teams. That's what happens on a Championship team.
In another post in this section of the blog there is a link to a video of PP working out with Giddens and Walker. There's footwork drills, quickness drills, lateral movement, explosiveness and running first with one and then two automobile tires attached to them with a harness. Guess who beat everyone at everything? It wasn't the younger guys.

Well, Clyde Drexler's game didn't tank until his 34th birthday, beginning of the '96-'97 season. Afterwards, he was not able to slash "the Glyde" to the basket and wasn't much of a jump shooter from there. And hence, the failure of the Rockets management to add perimeter shooters to the aging lineup of Clyde, Hakeem, and Barkley thus ending the Rocket's hope for a third title.

I guess the silver lining here is that Ray Ray started as a jump shooter, instead of a slasher, so perhaps he'll know when his game is on the fall. I suspect he's got two more seasons 'til the Drexler SG syndrome hits but with jump shooters, if they can keep their legs in good condition, they can go on like Reggie Miller did for quite some time. Drexler, unfortunately, was never a great outside scorer, despite being an incredibly talented guard otherwise.

Will never understand the Ray Allen trade talk. Its like they think that any shooter who can't make 60% of his shots is useless. Ray Allen showed a lot more the shooting during the playoffs. He was extremely poised and made contributions in other areas of the game. You can't find a more quality guy in the whole NBA. To even think of trading his straight up for another player other than Kobe or Wade is short sighted.

What about Josh Childress, I know he just went to Greece, but maybe his contract would then not count against the salary cap and the Green could go out and really improve the team by getting Bynum as well.

The thing that struck me about this article was my realization that we actually did have injury/pain/recovery with missed time for Ray Allen. We had KG missing time with injury. We had a banged up Paul Pierce for a while who was toughing it out in the finals by all accounts.

We still won an 'S' load of games and crushed the Lakers in the finals. I dont know about the rest of you guys, but the only way it gets better is if we do it again this year. 8)

***This sucks b/c its the 2nd time I'm having to re-submit the post b/c it timed out***

All this in a nutshell of what I tried to post before(3 paragraphs)...

Ray should stay b/c he brought us 17 and KG(as he would have never signed had Allen not been traded here)

Ray is a sharp shooter and always will be, no matter his age. ex. Reggie Miller

I choose loyalty over business as I would keep Allen through is contract and hope he'd come back a year or two more rather than trading his expiring contract. Thats just me

If the Celts win 1 or 2 of the next Finals, then expect each of the Big 3 to return even after the big $ contracts end. But if we fall short of glory, then wave bye bye to the trio, as most stars quit when the $$$ is up and the team isn't winning anymore. ex. Shaq

Maybe Shaq could end up in green in 2010-2011...??? Who knows, but maybe we could have the new BIG 5??

Rondo,*Wade,*Pierce,*KG,Perk for the starting 5
*Ray Allen and *Shaq off the bench
Can't stop, Rondo!
