So me and my brother by some miracle stroke of luck got a seat at the ceremony at the White House yesterday with President Bush and the Celtics.

We had to take a 10 hour bus there and back for the 15 min ceremony, but it was well worth it. After the ceremony, those who attended got to mingle with the Celtics and coaches in a small room next to the east wing. We got to mingle with everyone but Doc and the Big Three. It was pretty amazing because we got to take pictures with everyone, however most of those there just wanted their picture with  players like Big Baby and Powe, while many of the assistant coaches were left idle, especially Tom Thibodeau. I honestly do not think many fans who got to attend knew Thibodeau, so me and my brother talked basketball with him for about 20 minutes. He is a really nice and down to earth guy who from talking to him is clearly close with Jeff Van Gundy.

Me and my brother had no real business being there, but we are both so lucky to be able to talk to Tom Thibodeau and meet the likes of Powe, Baby, Scalabrine, and Tony Allen.

Also, PJ Brown was there and he is still seemed to be very much involved with this team.

Excellent story and TP for your effort!  Great that you got to meet with Coach Thibodeau.  I like your attitude of not trying to crowd the popular players and instead mingle with whoever is free.  Also, very interesting to hear about PJ......
Celtics fan for life.

Great story.  TP for you.  Sounds like you had a great time.  I would have gone for Perk, Powe and Rondo as they are my favorite players.  But, you were smart to talk with Thibodeau.  He was key to the championship as it was his defense that made the difference in the Celtics being very good and great.

So any insights? Did anyone seem out of shape? Was anyone in better shape than you expected? Or other tidbits of that nature...

Well, Big Baby was...well BIG.

Leon Powe looked to be IN SHAPE in person...like a piece of Iron...

Scals looks like just a regular person, not an athlete, he really just looked like your average tall guy, not a piece of athletic work like Powe.

After talking to Thibodeau, the C's defensive schemes were never too complicated. He said the key was keeping it simple, but also getting everyone on the same page. He said the key to a great defense was not many mistakes on offense, recovering for each other, and to get everyone to commit themselves for every key moment of the game. He said he had never seen a team do all this as quickly as the C's.

I want to post a picture, but I am not sure how, anyone know how to do this?

Sounds like a great time and it looks like Thibs is keeping his secrets of the trade close to his heart ;)
