It would be unfortunate for Odom to have to spend a season losing night in and night out after being in the Finals last year, but you know what they say . . .basketball is a business."

The Wolves wont make a Finals appearance or anything, but I'm surprised you think they'll be losing all the time esp with a Love, Al, Odom combo.  I think they'll give other teams fits, and be a relatively tough out this year.  I think that this is one of the few trade ideas floating out there that makes any sense for both teams.

  • The good ole days.
I guess it's a win win for both teams. Odom is more talented then Miller, but Miller will probably fit better. The Lakers will miss Odom's play making at the 4 though.

I think I like it more for the Grizzly.

I love this Trade for the Wolves.

Love
Jefferson
Odom

Is a decent front line and with tons of money coming off the books for free agents for "09" or "10"

For the Lakers it makes sense

Miller shooting ability creates more space for Kobe, Gasol and Bynum. and this cuts there payroll down 7 million for next season.

The big problem with this is that premier free agents won't sign with Minnesota.  They've now been in business for 19 years, and the best free agent they ever signed away from another team.... ummm....Mike James?  Who was promptly traded after horrible seasons.

It's freezing, players know that the GM & coach are horrible, and the owner didn't do himself any favors by openly throwing the best thing that ever happened to his team and a player well respected around the league under the bus with his "KG tanked it" comments.

It's very frustrating being a Wolves & Twins fan.  The Wolves have proved willing to spend the money, but are too stupid to do it wisely and are in a horribly undesirable location/situation... and the Twins just won't spend the money.

Operating under the intentions of freeing up major cap space only helps profits, not team performance when it comes to the Wolves.  (I'm sure they could probably get some of the middle-tier FAs in 2010 considering so many teams are targeting all the big dogs, but the only way the Wolves develop into a contender is if their drafted/traded for players pan out tremendously (Al, Love, Foye, etc).

"It ain't about me.  It's about us."  - KG, interview with John Thompson, 2005 All Star Game.

I didn't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has already been said, but this isn't a rumor, this is a trade idea thrown out in a chat by a random poster.  There is no more substance to this than anything posted in our Trade ideas forum.

...With that said, it makes a ton of sense for both teams.  Odom is a better fit in Minnesota, and will likely play a lot better without the bright lights, and Kobe next to him, and Mike Miller seems to me like the type of player who would thrive playing next to Kobe, and on a contender.  Luckily for us Celtics fans, this will likely never happen.

this trade makes sense for both teams as many of you have said.

in my opinion one thing is for sure; lamar odom will be traded before starting the season. the lakers have gasol and bynum and they need a SF. I think Miller could fit, let's see what it happens..!

Hedo Turkoglu and Jameer Nelson to the Pistons for Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince

"Absolutely no way this deal would ever happen, but Paul in Gainesville Florida asked me to start a trade rumor with Hedo, so there it is."

I would bet money this is our Gainsvilleceltic! GM of our CB fantasy Orlando Team! Haha!

That would be hilarious. Someone PM him to ask.

Remember when he brought in Chauncey for AI? Haha, it's got to be him...

If I were a betting man I'd say it was him too. Come on GC, don't let me down.

Jsaad --- are you quoting from the Hoopsworld article?  If not who is the "... asked me" in that sentence? [EDIT - i see that it is from the Hoopsworld article].  I used to like Hoopsworld, but they've really gone downhill IMO, they have these goofy rumors, like this one, and their wirting isn't as strong anymore.  i think sites like Hoopshype or TrueHoop (that aggregate stories) have better stories or sites like CBlog or theBlazersEdge have better analysis.

Sorry Maestro --- (1) my name is Mark, not Paul and (2) i DO KNOW the difference between fantasy and reality. I got Billups on my Fake Magics team, but that deal would be an absolute steal for the real Magic.  I'm still unclear where this rumor even is coming from. I'd be much more worried about the Magic than i already am if they got a guy like Billups.  IMO they should try and deal Rashard Lewis (his contract is too big and Turkoglu is as good at this point) and get a better, veteran PG or a PF -- which they really need.

I'm flattered though that people thought it was me  :D but any lopsided trade rumor i start is gonna benefit one team and one team only: THE REAL CELTICS!!

Thanks, although it was spotted by Jsaad, so I think he deserves the TP. I'll happily accept #301 though ;D

The Wolves still have a lot of dead money on there cap and that combined with Odom clearing out will make them a great trade partner who a team looking to move out of the luxury tax area...

Take the Clippers for example, They obtained Camby through cap space and being able to absorb his contract. The Wolves will have that ability sooner if they acquire Odom and/or at the very least, they get the best player in the trade.

If I'm the Wolves I do this in without hesitation.

twolves will be lifted from the bottom of the conference, which would make it a very speedy recovery after loosing you're biggest star in franchise history. this however i feel makes the lakers weaker. mike miller is another shooter... and with their shooters already, i don't see why another one is needed.

Become Legendary.

I like Odom much more than Miller. i think the Lakers can do better. I think they are better off keeping Odom, and running a 3 man rotation at the 4/5.

tempting though...

The addition of Miller makes players like Vlad Rad and Sasha tradeable, which may be a reason for LA to consider this. They lost their best bench big man (Turiaf)and could trade Vlad or Sasha to fill that void. Also, Miller balances the floor better for LA than Odom does and when Kobe goes to the bench you can keep one perimeter scorer out there, even putting him at 2 guard and letting Ariza guard the other team's best perimeter player. I think this move would allow LA to stay versatile and open up the possibility for more moves to make them even better.

I agree in the sense if they aquire Miller it could be a prelude to another deal with one of their other small forwards Ariza, Walton, or Radman.   I believe Sasha will stay as they just signed him to a new deal and he is more of SG anyway.   I think one area where they could use some insurance is PG.   Farmer is showing promise but is still very young and Fisher is 34 years old.

The whole trade Odom idea got me thinking.   What could be a better trade for them???  How about Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks for Odom and Walton.  I think Marion is an upgrade over Odom and maybe a better fit for a win now mode team who can also play the pf spot if needed.  By trading Walton as well it clears some space at the sf backup position.  If they want scoring off the bench they go to Radman if they want defense Ariza.   Banks although not an ideal choice would at least provide some insurance at the PG spot as they are a little thin there.   For Miami Odom has played well there before with Wade, is 2 years younger than Marion, and might fit better in Miami's future plans with a 26 yr old Wade and 19 yr old Beasley, than an older Marion would.   Walton is still young enough as well to be a part of the nucleus for the future.  The salaries match for this trade.

This is what happens when you make a trade with Chris Wallace...you actually still have assets to trade.....because the Lakers gave up NOTHING to get Gasol---they now can trade Odom for a great deal of talent.....Man, I HATE Chris Wallace.
