Are there any other college grads looking for work and find it extremely hard?  I just graduated with a degreee in bio from a good liberal arts school and cannot find a single job.  Ideally, I would love to work for an NBA team, although that is probably unlikely at this time.  Oh well, if any one wants to help me out with ideas that would be great.

Yea science jobs are a little tough right now, I graduated last year but decided to go to grad school for my PhD so hopefully in 4 years the economy will be better and the jobs too.

Yes I am having trouble finding a job, I don't think an NBA team is looking for a bio major, maybe marketing or finance.

Get with a recruiter, those guys can set you up on interviews. Use hotjobs or monster, they are also good.  Are you looking for a job in biology ?

Your best bet is a temp contract job, that will get you experience and can most times lead to a permanent position.

If you live in the boston area I would recommend KFORCE, as a good recruiting place to go, they have helped me out in the past.  When I company hires you they pay KFORCE a commission, so you don't have to pay them at all.  They help you with how to prepare for the interview and everything.

I'd recommend finding a job in Security at a Bio Facility and getting some connections from it. The other beauty of Security is the downtime that  will allow you to get your (Graduate) homework done, should you choose to go that route.

Where are you from?

Jobs are overrated.  Find a lifestyle, then find out how to finance it.  Thank me later...

It sounds to me like you are a little confused about what you want to do.  Speaking as someone who hires many recent graduates (and undergraduates) in large research lab...that is a huge turnoff for employers, and can end the interview process very prematurely.

I would recommend deciding what you want to do, and devise a plan on how to get there.  Then set out to achieve it, and be honest about this plan when you are interviewing for jobs.

I know personally, I can smell someone who is just looking for a "job" from a mile away, and they don't get anywhere...and I don't think I am alone in that.  When you are talking about a job in the sciences, we want people who actually want THAT job.  Someone who can get something from the experience, and won't simply get bored after a couple months and move on.

If you really want to work for an NBA team, then figure out what you want to do with that team, and find a way to get into that field.

If you show the dedication, hard work, and most importantly, sense of direction, the jobs are out there for you.  But if you are flaky, then there is too much competition to get anything good.

haha sorry i was away for a bit--that was my first post but I have been reading this blog ever since I stumbled upon it two summers ago at an intership in braintree.  I have been a die hard celtics fan since the days of frank brickowski, steve hamer, marty conlon, todd day, etc etc..im talking die hard.
I just wanted to see if anyone else was in my boat.  I am from Bedford, NH and graduated from Union College with Bio and an English minor.  I am not as much interested in the bio stuff as writing, communication, advertising, etc.  Basically, liberal arts schools DO NOT PREPARE YOU FOR ANYTHING.  I just wanted to know what other people were doing.

+1 get with a recruiter. Pick and choose though, there are definitely good ones that want to place you in jobs you're suited for and bad ones that are furthering someone else's agenda. Knowing who the recruiter works for is a big step.
