Oh yeah, I like the Sprewell comparison the best so far. Same height, same athleticism, decent but not great outside shooter, and takes the ball hard to the hoop. And unpredictable to boot.

Youtube Giddens.  You'll see that giddens has more ups than Spree.  Giddens is practically sticking his arm in the basket when he dunks.

Yeah, I think it's very hard to compare a player that haven't played a game as a pro to any other player.
We just have to wait and see...

there's always one in a crowd....

I'd say the JR Rider comparison seems plausible, but again until we see him against league competition, it'll be hard to make a real comparison...

Sprewell in his Golden State days was awesome.  I'd take that from Giddens and be happy.

Just give Doc a neck guard.
Yup

In the same vein, Michael Jordan.

If we're comparing the #30 pick in the draft to first ballot Hall of Famers, why limit ourselves?

I mean he reminds me of Bill Russell, if Bill Russell was a swing man.

Going off what websites like NBADraft.net say, I'd have to say Posey.  The strengths seem to be his ability to knock down the three, his effort on the defensive end, his long arms, and his overall hustle.  His weaknesses seem to be his ability to drive to the basket, his mid-range game, and his ability to be a playmaker.

Sounds a lot like Posey to me.

His biggest disadvantage is that he won't have the respect from the officials that Posey had, so it may be harder for him to play the type of defense that Posey did.  However, he probably will have more athleticism at his age, so it may make up for him.

To me, outside of maybe Miles, Giddens is the big sleeper on this team for next year.  Walker may have more upside down the road, but I really like what Giddens could do next year.

I believe that scouting report on nbadraft.net is from 2004, when he was at Kansas. Back then he was known as a guy who jacked up a lot of threes, despite his athleticism.

I believe last year he shot an incredibly low number of 3 pointers, which helped him to achieve the exceptional 51% FG%.

He's now known as a slasher with a decent pull up and midrange game, who needs to improve his outside shooting.

I've heard him talk about bulking up and working on his jump shot this summer, but I didn't hear him stress ball handling, which I've read is unrefined.

One thing on Giddens that a lot of people seem to be misunderstanding:  his three point shot isn't there yet.

Last season, he shot 33.3% from college distance.  That's respectable, but it's not a strength.  The season before, he hit 30.1%.  He appears to have become a much better and more efficient player last season when he limited his three point attempts; he went from 5.2 to 2.3 three point attempts, and as a result both his overall field goal percentage, his three point percentage, and his efficiency all improved.
