I wouldn't be upset if the C's signed one more player. We might have to send Walker overseas which would make me sad, or cut Scal (which would make me happy). Here is a list of what's left.

PJ Brown
Delonte West
Juwan Howard
Jamal Magloire
Juan Dixon
Lindsey Hunter
David Harrison
Alonzo Mourning
Darrell Armstrong
Robert Swift
Sean Marks
Damon Stoudamire
Robert Horry
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Can they send him over seas now that he has a contract?

They need a big man that knows how to play.

I don't think they can send their own player overseas if he is signed to the NBA team. Best case is sending him to the NBADL, but that doesn't free up a roster spot. It looks more and more like my prediction of Gabe Pruitt getting cut at some point this season could come true....

Would they cut Pruitt before they would cut Scal?
Was that a rhetorical question Wdleehi? because honestly I don't know the answer. No one knows the details of the contract. Couldn't we have signed him to a non guaranteed contract that has a provision for him going overseas?

That only happens if he shows he does not belong early in the season...in which case they would then need to use his roster spot to bring in another PG.

The C's are likely done for the Summer.  They may make another signing after Camp starts, and things begin to shake out, but thats about it.

The Celtics in need of a backup big man and the only players that fit that is Alonzo and PJ.

Although I would love to see Delonte as backup for Rondo  :D
Let's Go Celtics!!

Considering 14 players have guaranteed contracts and that one player has a non-guaranteed contract, the only player I see getting cut is Darius Miles. That would of course open the door to a PJ Brown signing come the All-Star break.

what if Darius plays so well that they can't cut him but after training camp they decide they need another big. Do they cut Scal? Or Pruitt? Or attempt a two for one trade?

Also I think since no one knows the specifics of Walkers contracts how do we know it's guranteed?

Roy can you drop some knowledge on us and explain the rules about sending players overseas but retaining their rights?

Then they look to move one of the other bench swings.  They do not need 4 on the bench.

I can tell you for sure that they cannot send him overseas after signing him to a contract (or if they did, he would still take up a roster spot).

My guess is they would look for trades first if they need a roster spot.  If they were going to bring someone in right after camp, it would likely be through a trade anyways, because there is no one that good out there, other than guys who will be midseason signings like PJ.

If they were looking to sign someone like PJ later in the season, my guess is they will try to trade Davis or Powe either with someone else in a two for one deal, or by themselves to a team with a trade exception, where they get back a draft pick.  Considering those guys are relatively redundant, and both of them are Free Agents after the season, one of them will be the most likely to go (assuming Miles sticks around).

I think Robert Horry would be a great pick up.

That's how I see it.  I don't see Miles making the team out of camp.

Yeah, that probably is the most likely situation.  But there is still the chance he surprises everyone...not too likely though.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
the difficulty with the OP's list is that it doesn't differentiate between unrestricted and restricted FA's...we'll never get an RFA, and most of the UFA's suck.

the best solution is for giddens to come in nba-ready...not holding my breath, but it would be nice.  i'm also hopeful that o'bryant will be an upgrade in the middle.  if not, PJ can ride it out until playoff time and then help bring it home...

Is Lindsay Hunter a restricted free agent? If not, why didn't Danny make a strong run at him for Rondo's back up?
