Another great album to listen to straight through is Beastie Boys - Check Your Head.  Especially when you realize they didn't sample anything on that album - they played every cut themselves...

Maybe I'm a little old school - but what ever happened to the Run DMC/B Boys style of finishing each others sentences within a verse?  Its so tight to be able to pull that off; I think J5 are the only ones who still do that...

to me, you cannnot put midnight marauders above low end theory, or even people's instinctive travels and the paths of rhythm. And you absolutelly cannot put apocolypse 91 above it takes a nation of millions to hold us back, the best hip hop cd of all time, IMHO.

EPMD, strictly business
dr dre the chronic
NWA straight outta compton

so many more, have to go to work, love this topic.

in no order:

wu-tang- 36 chambers
wu-tang- wu tang forever
public enemy- nation of millions
nwa- str8 outta compton
eminem- marshall mathers lp
run dmc- raising hell
eric b and rakim- paid in full
biggie- ready to die
tribe called quest-  low end theory
pharcyde- bizarre ride
mary j blige-  my life (yea i said it, mary j blige!)

Major TP dark_lord for reppin the Pharcyde. I loved that album!! Definitely not your average west coast rap group. While during that time most people were bumpin Dre, gettin into Snoop, Warren G and Too Short, the Pharcyde snuck right in the back door. They weren't hardcore gangstas. They just loved to crack jokes, smoke weed and just generally act like retards for the fun of it. I loved them.

Also was big on the Hieroglyphics as far as west coast groups in the mid-90's. Del the Funkee Homosapien, Casual, Souls of Mischief(this is how we chill from '93 til...), Domino. Loved Hiero.

As for the Pharcyde I love the Soulflower remix "I got more flava than 7-11 slurpees/if Magic can admit he got AIDS F it I got herpes". You cant beat the Pharcyde.

M.O.P. still does it. I love that style too. "Ante Up" is just pure adrenaline. Get too close to me after I hear that song and I might rip your arm off.

Love the Low End Theory. Is there a track on that album that ISN'T hott? How about Mecca & the Soul Brother? No mentions for that yet. Pete Rock, C.L. Smooth. They Reminisce. Who WASN'T bumpin that in '92?? Nobody.

Tough to say all-time but right now I'm diggin on that Fort Minor project. Mike Shinoda's bringin that heat right now. Every track is original completely not at all like anything you hear these days. Call a doctor. That kid is sick!
