The Office is my favorite show and I have one of those daily quotes calendars and I thought I'd share yesterday's which might be my favorite yet.

"Whenever I'm about to do something, I think 'Would an idiot do that?' And if they would, I do not do that thing." - Dwight

classic
Faith and Sports - an essay by Jeff Clark

"Know what I pray for? The strength to change what I can, the inability to accept what I can't, and the incapacity to tell the difference." - Calvin (Bill Watterson)

That quote made me laugh. I've never watched the Office. Sacrilege right? I've been meaning to give it a go. Sometime soon maybe.

Can someone tell me how to give negative TP's?  ;D

the office is one of my alltime favs (w/ Wire, 6 Feet Under, Lost, and Sledgehamer(!)) but i know there are some -- probably who haven't worked in an office or service industry job -- that don't find it all that funny.

Michael:

I was looking for the "Best Ever TV shows" thread I started a while back and it's nowhere to be found - do they delete automatically or what happened to it?

I've heard good things about the office, has anyone seen the UK version (the original if I'm not mistaken) with Ricky Gervais? I wasn't a fan of that at all.

The UK version of the Office is brilliant. Ricky Gervais' David Brent character may be better than the Michael Scott replacement. Unfortunately they didn't have the supporting cast the American version has and they were more true to form with how a real Office would behave, ie. not out of the office all the time. Great show though, just not as laugh out loud funny all the time like the American office.

Favorite quotes from American version.

Pam: It's performance review day, company-wide. Last year, my performance review started with Michael asking me what my hopes and dreams were, and it ended with him telling me he could bench-press 190 pounds. So, I don't really know what to expect.

Michael: Yes, it is true. I, Michael Scott, am signing up with an online dating service. Thousands of people have done it, and I am going to do it. I need a username. And... I have a great one [types]. Little kid lover. That way, people will know exactly where my priorities are at.

Michael: Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.

Michael: Guess what, I have flaws. What are they? Oh, I don't know. I sing in the shower. Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I'll hit somebody with my car. So sue me... No, don't sue me. That is the opposite of the point that I'm trying to make.

Great post, it's really hard to pick one.

David Brent: "There are limits to my comedy. There are things that I'll never laugh at. The handicapped. Because there's nothing funny about them. Or any deformity. It's like when you see someone look at a little handicapped and go 'ooh, look at him, he's not able-bodied. I am, I'm prejudiced.' Yeah, well, at least the little handicapped fella is able-minded. Unless he's not, it's difficult to tell with the wheelchair ones."

Oh, and I don't agree with ACN. I think that BBC's The Office >>> NBC's The Office. While both good, the two versions are different. I rarely laugh loud when watching the original. It was more painful than funny. The American version is more funny than painful. I prefer the former.

one of my favorite is when Michael holds a contest to see who can make the most sales. He pairs the sales people up and Dwight and Jim get to be partners. As they are walking into the building Dwight refuses to walk infront of Jim...

Jim: Why won't you go first?
Dwight: 80% of attacks come the rear.
Jim: SO there is still a 20% chance i would attack you from the front.
Dwight: Yeah but i would have ample time to defend myself in that situation.

And before dwight finishes he sentence Jim just slaps him in the face and walks away. THe quote isnt necesarily funny but the scene in general is HILARIOUS
“We don't see ourselves as four All-Stars. We see ourselves as one unit. It's like five fingers on a hand. You can do more damage together as a fist than spread out flat.”
- Rasheed Wallace

Ha, the great UK vs. US Office debate makes its way to Celticsblog. I love both shows but they are very different.

My favorite quote comes from the UK version. Can't post it here because it's probably too filthy but it has to do with fanny packs.

I said the BBC version is brilliant..is that not praise :) You basically said the same thing I said, the American is more laugh out loud where as the David Brent scenes are painful but that is the type of humor I prefer as well. I also love Gareth but you have to admit besides the main 4 characters and Keith the British Office doesn't have as much hilarity from the supporting cast that the American version has.

I am obsessed with The Office (US). Just love it.

"Why are you the way that you are? Honestly, everytime I try to do something fun, or exciting, you make it..not that way. I hate... so much.. about the things that you choose to be." -Michael Scott to Tobey
