Im not sure how this works, but no one else mentioned it.

we have a 15 man roster, but say Bill Walker, Pruitt, or Giddens got sent to the NBDL, doesnt that open up a roster spot??

a couple of years ago the nba changed a number of rules, and as result things are actually simplier.

each team may have a max of 15 players. a minimun of 12.

that is basically it. you have 15 players, whether they are injured, playing, or dead. (i think the last cateogry is mark blount.)

you have 15 players and if you want to put as many as 2 (3?) in the developmental league, go ahead. but it still adds up to 15 max.

if i am wrong, it would be par for the course, so please correct me someone.

in one day we go from having scal as our back-up 3, to some really exciting possibilities.  can't wait to see what these two 3's can do!  Love the comparisons to Maxiel of the Pistons.  anyone want to explore that?

Last year Jackie Manuel and Dahntay Jones were brought in for camp and later waived/released. D Miles is not guaranteed. They can waive anyone as long as they are bought out. Anyone know if it is any different for newly signed draft picks (there may be time limit)?

For Giddens being a first rounder (lucky devil) I believe his salary is guaranteed whether we waive him or not, Walker on the other hand is like Miles or any other free agent if he's waived before the season or a certain point in the season the rest of his salary is not guaranteed, I think that's how that works.  If not I'm sure Roy can straighten out my error

Like what I have heard about Walkers commitment to making the team. As, I have mentioned before - this guy played with Mayo in HS and Beasley in College, he is not going to let those guys leave him in the dust. He is going to try to prove that he can play at the same level.

Recent interviews of Walker led me to think that perhaps he has been controlling the information on his knee in order to get to the team he wanted. If you think about it, draftees have little leverage. They can control who they work out with and they can control the flow of medical information. If, as he has said, the knee issue was "no big deal" and if the C's "knew it was no big deal all along", it causes me  to wonder if he was leaving some in the dark in order to get to the team he wanted.

In any case hope he can make a splash and play some meaningful minutes behind PP. Camp will be very competitive.

You're correct that all first rounders are guaranteed.

For Walker, we have no details on his contract.  In the past, Danny has liked to sign his second rounders to one year guaranteed, with the second and third year non-guaranteed (or vesting upon certain statistical milestones.)  My guess is, we're on the hook for Walker's entire salary this year.

...I don't think you'll be disapointed in "being on the hook"  for 550K this year...Walker will be a beast in 3 years of working with Pierce...health permitting, this kid as the make-up of a winner and the physical tools to back it up...

i agree. while i did not get to watch walker in college, from what all the scouts say he would have been a top fifteen pick in the draft.... expect for those knees.

You are suggesting that he might have wanted to fall out of the first round and pass up a 2 year guaranteed contract for more money?

Zero chance.
