Back in 06 he was a top 5 pick if it wasn't for the age limit. Anyways he clearly isn't on par with Michael Beasley or OJ Mayo but does he have all-star potential?

Even though he doesn't seem like he had a great year last year he was oversized because his coaches wanted him to gain weight to play power forward. Last year for KSU he was 265 pounds but in this video he said he lost about 25 pounds and he's getting his quickness back. Last year he was kind of out of position. I also want to mention that KSU's offense was kind of run like the Cavs because they had no real PG. The offense sucked!

I still feel like saying he'll be a more athletic version of Bonzi Wells is an understatement. Ofcourse it will come down to his health anyways!

Potentialwise, he could be an All-star.  I think there is something to the comparisons to Paul Pierce and Vince Carter.

With that said, Gerald Green had the "potential" to be the next Tracy McGrady.

Gerald Green also didn't start playing until high school. Walker's been playing his entire life.

there ought to be a new rule at celticsblog, that like religion and politics, you cannot sneak any gerald green posts into a thread defending his failed basketball career.  :)

Are you defending Green, or making the case that Walker won't be a bust like him?

Well, Danny definitely went athletic in this draft. I think he is looking for strong scoring off the bench right now, and I think both Giddens and Walker could step in now and give 15 mins a game off the bench. I also think they were brought in as insurance to Tony Allen in case his old injury acts up.

With all of that said, I loved Walker as one of our picks, and I think he will be a 15-17 ppg career guy, possibly an all-star if he works at it enough. I think both of our picks were slept on.

We will have to wait until training camp to see a glimpse of the real Bill Walker. If I am right, we will see an extremely hard working, yet raw young talent that is loaded with P.

Bill Walker IMO has all the tools to become a poor man's Paul Pierce. He is very similar to several other power three's in the league. Gerald Wallace, Josh Howard and Matt Harpring all come to mind. Similar builds and skill sets, very strong, tough rebounder, good defender and decent but not spectacular shooter from mid range.

The two issues that are negative and reallys stand out for me are:

1-young and raw without the experience or development of the 3 mentioned, let alone Pierce. He needs to put in some serious time and work to reach the status of the three. Another healthy year at school againts top level competition would have done wonders for Walker, but thats not how the NBA business works anymore.

2-injuries and multiple surgeries are never a good sign and may severly limit his progress.

I will say that regardless of the physical outcome, Bill Walker was well worth the money spent in acquiring him. He will likely end up being another 'so called' steal in the second round for the Boston Celtics. I call this one a no brainer.

No, I was implying it wasn't likely Gerald would have ever panned out at the NBA level considering his lack of knowledge of the game. I'd be willing to bet everyone on this blog knows more about basketball than Gerald Green.

All Gerald had was ups and a snarky attitude, Walker had that and has learned to play without it through injury and still was successful.

Bonzi is the obvious comparison on a number of levels; size, athleticism, outside shooting, post game, dunks, rebounding - the list goes on. Potential in the NBA, however, is usually limited by size and kinesiology, so here is a list of interesting comparables:

Ron Artest
Adrian Griffin
Andres Nocioni
Josh Howard
Jason Maxiell
Corey Magette

Gerald Green has the size and athleticism of a McGrady, but he never really had basketball talent thus no real potential to be McGrady.
