"The Spurs and free agent Michael Finley have agreed on a new contract. The deal is pending league approval, and details have not been disclosed.
After being courted by many top contenders, Finley ended up choosing between staying with the Spurs or joining the Celtics. He is still a threat from the perimeter, but Finley's days of playing big minutes are over and the Spurs will use him sparingly during the regular season."

I kinda wished we got him, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Just wanted to throw it out there and see what everyone here thinks on missing out on Finley. He's a streaky shooter but has a great all around game and is a true triple-threat player. I suppose we have enough vets though. Thoughts?

Would have been nice, I think he would have been a solid pickup, but he's not a difference-maker at this point in his career.  I think we'd be looking at him playing 10MPG if he did come aboard; instead, we'll get to see Giddens and Walker likely get a little bit of playing time and development.

I would like to see Danny reach out to Bonzi Wells, who I think offers a little bit more than Finley at this stage in their careers (even if he is a bit of a knucklehead).

He wouldn't have been a bad addition but I'm not overly disappointed about losing him so what does that mean?

Really tells you the faith they have in TA and the rookies.

Ditto on Wells I think he has a lot to offer other than that the team would have to look to trade (and we don't have any pieces we want to part with) or who's left Miles, Dermarr Johnson, and Quinton Ross, hopefully we'd take Bonzi first.

would you put all your eggs in a basket full of rookies and a guy who hasn't proven he can be a consistent bench player?  I like that the c's were going after Finley, its more insurance than a lack of faith imo

I don't get the comment above because since Finley chose San An over Boston doesn't that mean that Boston reached out to Finley, which would further indicate a lack of faith in TA/+ the Rookies?

I personally have very little "faith" (whatever that means) in Tony Allen. I've dubbed him "turnover Tony" for a reason.

Maybe the Celtics offered less money than the Spurs because they don't really feel a need to sign him for a lot of money because they have a lot of faith in their young players.

Maybe, but I wouldn't go that far just based on them not signing Finley.  By ESPN's account, the C's wanted him, but he chose the Spurs.  That's hardly an example of the C's having a lot of faith in TA and the rookies.  Furthermore, I'd attribute the fact they didn't offer Finley more money to their wariness of of his waning skills and the hope they have that they may be able to nab someone better via a buyout later in the year.

I've personally been somewhat wary of TA and the rookies taking the place of Posey; however, I do think the C's can afford to start the season as they are.  Hopefully if they can't cut it, they can pick someone else up before the playoffs.

Finley could not defend in our system. He's done. He can still shoot but that is streaky. I would've much rather had Pargo.

Once again, nobody wants to play here in Boston. Not even a chance for a ring can persuade FAs to come to town. :'(
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Maybe.  It seems from scouting reports that Giddens' excels in rebounding, defense (and like Posey, he has freakishly long arms), and his outside shot.  That bodes well for him, as he won't be asked to do much more when he teams with the C's superstars.  I've seen some people allege that he's not that polished off the dribble, but that shouldn't matter much, as the times his number will be called on an iso play will be few and far between.

I can live without Finley...but I think I'll pass on Pargo, too.

This from Pounding the Rock just about says it all on Jannero for me:

I'm not knocking James Posey but he was never known to be polished off the dribble.  Stand up guy like Finley would be nice to add to the C's but at this point its give time to Tony (grown up) and make or break.  I think the young mr Giddens is going to impress.

As for no free agents wanting to come to Boston ??  I must be not remembering last year correctly.  If you win, vet FA will come!
