i hate JA Adande. i could stand him for a while on around the horn, but the first time i saw him on PTI (a show i watch almost everyday) i had to shut it off, hes not whitty or funny, and he doesn't have a very intelligent "expert" analysis on anything.

I like it...motivation.

Yea the Celtics seem to like to be the underdogs. Then Scal can come out again after we win and ask what the 'experts' were thinking. lol
Anything is possible!!!

This team does a lot better when they are the "underdogs".  It's almost like they gave up Posey so people would start doubting them again.  lol

again guys, it was toni who said that the celts are too old.
and by no way is he an NBA expert. which are all bull as we saw in the finals.

my roomate is a lakers fan, and i have seen buynum play, he's not what they make him to me, but trust me, offensivly he is better than Perk.

but still, as a team, i would take the Celts any day over the lakers, its not like we are 10 yrs older, dont know what toni is thinking saying that we are too old to repeat. we cruesed through the regular season, and i promise u guys that after the detroit and LA finals, road games will be no problem next yr now that this team has championship experience

I will say it: Lakers VS Celtics in 2009 NBA Finals.

C's win in 6 games again....(we actually should have swept them this past finals).

Wilbon is the NBA guy

I think he picked the Celtics to win the finals this past year, correct me if I'm wrong

So just the wrong day to ask that question I guess

Wilbon really isn't an NBA guy and doesn't know squat about basketball.  Wilbon picked the Lakers earlier in the season.  It was Kornheiser at that time that picked the Celtics because of their defense and the fact that they were the best team all year.  The guy that wasn't supposed to know basketball had more sense than Wilbon.

After the finals Wilbon said that he and all the experts should have just listened to Phil Jackson.  When asked if the Lakers could win the Finals, Jackson responded, "if we play defense."  Wilbon said they never did play good defense.
"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

I love the fact that ESPN guys continue to pick against our guys.  Celts loved the fact that they were underdogs vs. the Lakers in 08 finals.

Houston will be the team to beat in the West this year...Artest will be highly motivated (at least for this season)..and did anyone notice, during the finals, that Pau Gasol played like...ahh..mmmm..ummm..Pau Gasol...and as far as PTI , well that show is just one step above Judge Judy...

I think Ian Thompsen might be worse than any of those guys in his dislike for the Celtics.

"Experts" always seem to pick the Lakers over the Celtics. Everyone always gets blinded by flashy scoring, as we can remember from this years finals. I think even in the 50's and 60's Russell era everyone would come back after the Celtics win a Championship and say this year is the Lakers year. But that year never came. Not for a while atleast. So I like to think of the experts as lemmings just running off cliffs, makes me happy.
"Sam Cassell was heckling on the sideline when I walked down, He looked at me and was like, ‘You're getting the ball, I know you're getting the ball!'
said Allen.

And did Cassell, a man of many words, have anything to say after that?

"No, I told him he needed to wear a tie."

The Lakers will definitely not waltz right on into the Finals.  I agree with most that N.O., HOU, UTAH and S.A. are they're biggest challengers, but I see N.O. as a MUCH bigger threat than HOU when you consider CP3 is likely still improving, the addition of Posey and one of either Yao or McGrady (or both) WILL GET HURT.  It's like an annual rite in Houston.

Also, no knocking Artest's on-court game, but, [dang], this guy is crazier than a road lizard and is only showing signs of getting worse.  Controversy follows him.  This is a fact, and it's hard to play championship style hoops with that kind of distraction.

The West will come down to the same thing it did last year: playoff matchups, specifically who matches up well against who.  The teams are too close in ability and too good overall for there to be one clear favorite.  This year the Lakers got an ideal bracket of the no-defense Nuggets, no-answer for Kobe Jazz, and the Spurs with a hobbled Ginobili.  If they had gotten the Mavs, Rockets, and Hornets, or a full-strength Spurs team at any point, they would have been much less likely to get out of the West.  It's all going to depend on where the seedings shake out.

This is somewhat but less true for us.  If we play the Wizards, Magic, and Cavs we might struggle; if we get the Nets, Sixers, and Pistons, we'll probably do very well.  The East is weaker overall so it's less of an issue.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Funny because before the 07-08 season they were saying our best chance to win would be 08-09 when the Chemistry would be there. I don't see what's changed between then and now aside from us winning it in 08. The Chemistry will only be better next year, the championship experience is there, and Perk & Rondo are battled tested/proven.

Laker's will be the same soft team that we beat up on. I don't see them making it back to the Finals. To be honest seeing them play makes it hard to believe they were the best in the west.

To be fair, Gasol was playing center for most of the year. He is a PF, playing out of position. Odom is a SF, not a Pf, he has never been that good as a PF IMO. Imagine if we had KG playing center all year with a soft PF like Odom playing beside him. We would be in trouble, it's just that simple.

I think the most dangerous team in the West this year will be Portland. They were good last year and now they are a year older with Oden healthy. Houston will play in the Western conference finals, against who I dont know.

I think we have an excellent chance to repeat this year. I think we win less games and still make the NBA finals. The Hawks, Pistons, Cavaliers and now 76ers will be the teams we have to beat. I dont think the Magic will be a problem this coming year. 8)
