If I'm not mistaken J.R. Smith is still out there correct? He would be a nice young player to come off the bench for the MLE.. and with the financial situation Denver is in I believe they can't match that can they.. Just wondering love to hear you thoughts

He's chasing dollars not rings at this point, and to leave Denver it would be more dollars than which we'd be willing to part.  And we have Eddie House for less money and less ego.

I believe he's a restricted free agent or I'd be jumping all over this. I love J.R. Smith's game and all he would need is to spend some time with Paul, Ray, and KG to maybe finally realize his potential.

I think we desperately need to sign JR Smith. He's one of the few legitimately talented players left on the market, and his outside shooting will fill one of the holes left by James Posey's departure. That being said, I think with the Marcus Camby trade having been completed, I believe Denver has freed up enough cap space to match any offer the celtics can make. Camby made over 10 million, and the MLE is only 5.2 million, or something in that range. As things currently stand it doesn't seem likely to me that we will be able to snatch him away.

If in fact we do, I believe he would be a great pickup, despite attitude problems (that were fostered in Denver, with role models like Carmelo and AI teaching how to behave. In highschool he was a quite congenial kid.).

and the guy turned out to be more of a shooter than anything else.

Smith intrigues me, but I'm not sure he intrigues me enough.

This team absolutely needs some offensive punch off the bench, and there is no doubt that he would bring that.  The guy can both shoot the three and slash, and his true shooting last season was off the charts (60.3 percent), making it hard to complain that he is an inefficient chucker, though he certainly does love to put the ball up.

At the same time, his attitude and myriad of personal problems make him quite a risk.  His defensive reputation falls under the distinction of "can't be bothered to guard anyone," the Nuggets had to suspend him last summer, and he may be the only active player directly responsible for the death of another human being.  While the defense is one thing (we saw the influence that the leaders on this team had a season ago, and there is certainly a chance to replicate that), there is no guarantee that it improves, and the off-court trouble seems to be a long-time pattern for Smith.  He's likely too much of a risk for the money the Celts would need to put up (not even sure the MLE would do it), though it would be an interesting experiment.

If in fact we do, I believe he would be a great pickup, despite attitude problems (that were fostered in Denver, with role models like Carmelo and AI teaching how to behave. In highschool he was a quite congenial kid.).

PerkinsERA, I know very little of Smith's conduct in high school, so I'll defer to you on that one.  But I do believe that his 'tude troubles started prior to Denver -- he had major issues with Byron Scott in New Orleans -- so I'm not sure we can hang this all on the Denver environment.  Just wanted to clarify.

I don't think we need to "desperately" sign anyone - champions don't show desperation... we've basically lost 1 guy from last years team who mattered, gained a few rookies who have potential, a big guy who umm is tall... I'm not too worried right now, the role players will fill in or we'll find other guys during the season

JR is enough of an aggressor that he could learn team defense and be successful at it. The only issue is that we don't have enough money for him. If Boston worked him out, and found out that he could be worth a long contract(one that we didn't want to give to an aging Posey) then we could try and sign him and hope Denver won't match it. BTW, we only have 1/2 of the MLE, due to the signing of House. Cassell wants to go to Denver to work with George Karl, so maybe we could work out a sign -and- trade with him and some other pieces(Scalabrine, BBD) to reassure getting JR Smith.

Rondo/House/Pruitt
Ray/Tony/Giddens
Pierce/JRSmith/BWalker
KG/Powe
Perkins/O'B

13 players...sign Theo Ratliff(in case a big goes down) and leave 15th spot open till February, or sign Darius Miles.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Did we already sign JR Rider too?  :D

Knucklehead who hasn't grown up yet. I want no part of him.  Maybe in 5 years...

And then we can team him with Gerald who may have turned it around by then too.  We could have quite the high flying team then.  We need to get these guys signed now, so someone else doesn't steal them away.  2014 never looked so bright.  ;D

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

JR Smith is a super offensive talent, I would certainly like to see him join this team.
He's so talented offensively he could easily come off the bench and lead the team in scoring.
He's energetic and could learn the defensive scheme pretty easily.
Yes he does have a history of having a bad attitude, but so did quite a few players who played under George Karl for some reason !
In terms  of what he could bring to this team
He's a scorer, and a runner, Rondo would love to play with this guy and so would most of the team.
KG, Paul and Ray Allen would be his mentors so I think his attitude problems would be fine under the watch of these guys not to mention the no non sense kind of coach Doc Rivers is
