The Portland Trailblazers are depending on Oden for their up and coming season. And after missing his first year in the league, some fans are already throwing around the "bust" word for Greg. I, as well as many others are curious as to what Oden is going to bring this year. The Portland fans are going to be disappointed if Oden does not reach their standards this year. I think all basketball fans, analysts, coaches, and players have the right to have high standards with Oden. Coming out of the draft, Oden was supposed to be the guy who was going to carry his team to a minimum of three championships.

To me, Oden has to play at least 70 games, average 15 to 18ppg, 10 to 13rpg, and 1.75 to 3 blocks a game. The Blazers must also make an appearance in the playoffs. If Oden fails the above, to me, the 08 09 season is a disappointment. Also, unfortunately, if Oden suffers another serious injury I will not hesitate to throw around the bust word. So what kind of expectations do you have for Oden, and what will you consider a disappointment?

Wow. My old Greg Oden thread. He clearly failed my expectations. He put up just about 9pts,  7rb, and 1blk a game. But here's the thing: He only played in 61 games.

It's fun to look back and see what your expectations were for Oden. I can see that he failed most of the posters. So with that being said, I guess I'll turn this thread into this year's version
of "how bad will Oden stink?"

I don't think he stinks at all. His per minute production was rather good, the problem is his foul rate is way too high. That is a very common problem for young big men, it takes time.

Be patient he isn't quite a bust yet. 9 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block a game are identical to Robert Parrish's numbers at the same point in his career.

Oden will be fine

He averaged 9, 7 and 1 in 20 minutes per game.  That's fine.  He has one season of NBA basketball under his belt and wasn't 100% physically.  I think his numbers compare favorably to Al Jefferson in his 2nd season playing in the NBA.  Oden will be really good.

I think he has got to be a 20 and 10 guy personally especially considering he was drafted before Durant, you have to consider him a dissapointment if people think Durant was better at the end of their careers.

TP, my thoughts exactly. I think he'll be very very good, if he can stay on the court.

His career will depend on his knees.

In his rookie season (which was effectively the 08-09 season) he had 18 PER and had very solid numbers in only 20 minutes or so a game.

That's very promising for a rookie.  The fact remains, however, that his knees are very suspect, and their integrity will be the determining factor in the length and impact of his career.

he has to play a whole season!
I still think if he is in shape (which was ? last year) he is going to be very good.
Next year 10 pts, 12 rebounds, 1.5 blocks
He HAS to average 12 rbs a game if playing normal minutes.

I think Portland (rightly so) have been working him lightly coming off from his major injury.  I think they pulled the plug on him where with another player, might not have pulled it so quickly.

I would expect to see his minutes jump to 30 minutes a night, and his contribution, not anyone they pick up in a trade, will turn them from another west playoff team to a threat for a west crown.

I just want to see Oden improve his defense next season. I think that should be his first priority. I thought he was a poor defender as a rookie, and that has to change.

The rest of his game is very good. He's a superb rebounder and a good offensive player, not a go-to scorer but someone who helps the team offensively.

He fouls too much to play 30 minutes.

So do most rookie Cs.  As he plays more minutes, gains more respect from the officials, the foul rate will drop.  Look at Perk for example.
