As Celtic fans you are allowed some bragging rights for your accomplishment in winning the Finals and beating the Lakers.  Trash talking is part of the game.  I am sure Phil Jackson and the Lakers would be doing the same if the Lakers would have won the title.  BUT C'mon!  Pierce better than Kobe?.lol! I am sure that you (Celtics Fans) have to naturally come to the defense of Pierce and your team. But that is just ridiculous.

I like the point of view of Celtic fans who agree that since Pierce just won the title that he should be able to say that.  But that also depends on the comment(s).  But I do have to ask, where was Pierce before that?  If that is the case, why isn't he on the Olympic team?  He is not even good enough to come off the bench on that team.  Also, please stop saying that he is a best all around player.  HE IS NOT!  One year of winning the title and all of a sudden he is this good?  Why weren't Celtic fans making this argument before?  The years that both Paul and Kobe have had sub-par team mates which player has lead their team further?  By the way, let me remind you that Kobe plays in the West!

The biggest difference and the biggest reason why the Celtics won is because of KG which by the way, was the anchor of the defense.  It was team defense that stopped Kobe not Pierce..lol.  How can you guys say that Pierce stopped Kobe? Since we are on the subject of KG.  Let me just say this.  Pierce, KG and Allen each were leaders of their own team and were not able to lead a team anywhere.  So if each of them were the leaders on last years Lakers team none of them would be able to take them (lead them) as far as Kobe has & did.  There is no reason to think otherwise because up until last year they needed each other to accomplish what Kobe did which was take a team to the Finals.  So, dont tell me that Pierce is better than Kobe. 

Finally, we all have to give credit where credit is due and say that the Celtics were the best team in the league an you deserve your credit.  But, if you are a true basketball fan, you have to admit Kobe's greatness and compare his resume to Pierce's and it's almost laughable.  So, if you dont want to give credit to Kobe for winning titles because he had Shaq, then you can't give credit to Pierce because he has Allen and KG. 

No all caps titles.

i must admit, when i saw the thread title, and its CAPS LOCK MEANS IM ANGRY!!!! look i expected a disjointed post, TP to you for a pretty good and well thought out post.

just goes to show you cant judge a thread by its cover all the time. I disagree with alot of the points made in the post, bcause there kind of "well, your all JERKS!" kind of points, but since i agree paul isn't as good as kobe, can't really sound off on it.

Team Defense was the majority of the stop to Kobe's offense, but in Game 4 Pierce did switch with Allen to guard Kobe in the 2nd half, and it turned out to be the biggest comeback in Finals history. As for Pierce vs. Kobe, I'll admit Kobe is better. He's a monster on both sides of the ball, (as is Pierce) but he does have more control than Pierce, and still has that slight advantage over him. Kobe did win 3 rings by the way..Pierce has 1..But I'm still Celtics and Pierce all the way.

A relatively eloquent post...i generally agree with your points here.

One thing i will say in Peirce's defense is that, this past season, he WAS one of the best two way players - he brought the complete package to the table.

You are right in that Pierce's resume doesn't touch Kobe's, but Pierce elevated his game to elite status this past year and put the team on his back during the playoffs when Allen and KG played inconsistent ball.

Let's also not foget that the Lakers were (somehow) clear favorites to win the title before game 1 was played.  Bottom line is Pierce did what Kobe couldn't do in '08 which was survive the hype, overcome adversity, and outplay his counterpart, which is why Pierce was the most outstanding player in the post-season.

Kobe is the more talented player.  However all his teammates hate him, women can't trust him because...you know... He ran one of the 5 best centers of all time out of town.

Pierce on the other hand loves his teammates, wants to win at any costs, and plays big at big moments.

People can talk about Pierce having the better team...however i seem to remember many national pundits and obnoxious west coasters alike think the lakers had the far superior team prior to the start of the series.  So yeah...

Ridiculous.

1) Pierce's comments have been misconstrued and sampled out of context by just about everyone out there. Clearly he's saying "Its my mentality to believe I'm the best player." He alludes its a confidence thing, and if anyone bothered to read the entire interview, and bring a little subtlety into it, its a phony pr answer. It held about as much actual opinion and weight as a cup full of air. Thank god we have fans, commentators and bloggers to blow things way way way out of proportion.

2) Pierce was asked to the US Men's team, as was KG..they both declined. Know your facts.

3) Lamar Odom is better than any other Celtic Pierce has ever played with. (Not speaking for the board, just my opinion) Kobe has never in his life had a worse team than Paul Pierce, until this year.

4) The Celtics won the 2008 NBA title in six games, Paul Pierce is the Finals MVP. Believe the Hype.

"Lead Them" indeed. He's never lead a team to a title in his life. He's always needed the Big Diesel to win it.

Thanks for the input.  Now run along back to your Lakers board and try to come up with some more things to talk about other than the Celtics' man-handling of your soft Lakers.  Last I checked, basketball was a team game.  It doesn't matter who the best player is, only who the best team is; and in 2008, the Boston Celtics undoubtedly showed that they were that team.  And while Kobe is still one of, if not the best individual players in the league, his place historically took a huge hit when his team, which was favored pretty heavily to win, got beat down pretty bad, and he didn't do much to stop it.
