I don't know. With all due respect to the Bulls I think there are at least 3 teams better than them. The Cavs, the Bucks and the Wiz I think all would beat them out for that last spot. The Bulls look like Kobe and a group of mediocre role players. And they have no PG whatsoever.

Kobe and the role players was equal to 8th spot in the West for years.  Why should it be any different now?

Because those teams had more inherent talent than this group. Kobe would say he's playing with "butter knives" with this group. There's no PG on this roster. None(unless rosters have not been updated). There are a few decent bangers down low but no real offensive presence to scare anybody at all. There's a wing that almost ate himself out of the league and  wing with 2 bad knees who's already an abysmal defender. There's nothing about this group that couldn't be solved with a Kobe double team. There isn't a doubt in mind the Cavs, Wiz and Bucks could beat the Bulls anytime they wanted right now.

Yeah, they haven't been updated.  To the listed team, Steve has added Brevin Knight, Chris Quinn, and Kareem Rush.

The team is looking like:

C: Nazr / Foster
PF: J. Smith / Powe
SF: Q. Rich / Wally
SG: Kobe / Sasha / Rush
PG: Bayless / Knight / Quinn

That's not terrible.  Not a contender, but not terrible.

Right now I see the east this way
1-New Jersey
2-Detroit
3-Orlando
4-Toronto
5-Ny
6-Chicago
7-Charlotte
8-Atlanta

sorry i gotta say ORL is much better than Detroit --

Billups > Watson (and i love Watson; but he'll get posted up all night)
Delonte = Ben Gordon (gordon better on Off.; West better on D)
Granger > Turkoglu
Duncan > Marion
Miller = Ming (Yao by a nose.... Miller can be physical with Yao (always a inj. risk) even if he doesn't block his shot and we can always throw Noah and Foyle at Yao to wear him down, and/or bring Duncan over onto Yao, and match smaller lineups)

Harpring/Noah/Barnes/Dudley/Wright/JWill/Foyle >> Terry/Wilkins/Lowry/Landry/Hibbert

TOR is a little better than DET too..:

Iverson > Watson (and i love BOTH)
Carter > Ben Gordon
Th. Young < Turkoglu
Jamison = Marion (they do diff things, but this is a nice matchup)
Z = Yao

Detroit has the slightly better bench

Well, the "Kobe and a bunch of mediocre role players" formula has gotten the Lakers into the playoffs before, right?

As for their PG, they've got Bayless, Knight, and Quinn.  That's not terrible.

I can't say they'll definitely make the playoffs, because frankly, I haven't looked at the Cavs, Bucks, and Wizards teams closely enough.  I don't totally hate the team Chicago has put together, though, especially after trading away their second and third rounders.

Ok, my bad. Didn't see the updated list. That said, Bayless is an unknown quantity because he's a rookie. But I can tell ya what IS known about him is that currently he shows ZERO pg instincts right now. Exceptional ballhandler and penetrator with the ability to get to the line and finish, but no ability to create for teammates at all. Knight is a brittle, smallish backup pg without much range on his shot. And Quinn is well...Quinn. He's a 3rd pg.

The rest of that squad just doesn't strike me as good enough to fight for a playoff spot. It's a nice group but they need more overall talent.

Wow, it doesn't look bad at all. I think its probably good enough for the last playoff spot.

Really?  I don't think that one's particularly close, and it's in Yao's favor.

Yeah, I don't think Big Z is even on Yao's level.

Definitely not a terrible team at all. But not a playoff team. Not if they have to battle with the Cavs, the Wiz and the Bucks who I think are all better. Kobe and Nazr maybe the only guys on that team that would play any defense. Maybe not even Kobe if you consider how much work he'll have to do at the offensive end in order to make the team work.

I see the East like this for talent in 4 tiers but I don't think that one team can really run away with it.  Some teams have great starting 5's but weaker benches, some teams have talent spread throughout but not as much heavy firepower. So here is what I see if the season started today.

Tier 1: Magic, Nets, Pistons, Knicks
Tier 2: 76ers, Raptors, Hawks, Bobcats
Tier 3: Bucks, Wizards, Cavs, Bulls
Tier 4: Pacers, Heat, Celtics.

But it was kind of hard to judge since players show up on multiple rosters. Some teams need to update the roster thread.  Then the my tiers might change.
