Are you serious?  We're giving up the great Manny AND a couple of young players and only get Holliday?... a guy only hits well in his home ballpark?  If anythying we should only be giving up Manny and getting Holliday and a couple of top prospects.  Holliday is not worth Manny + anything else.

Well, NESN just reported that Casey Kotchman was traded for Mark Teixeira, so you can forget that. :P

I think that most importantly it allows us to obtain Mark Teixiera now instead of during free agency when the price will be driven up. Who else are we going to replace Manny with after this year?

won't happen, Boras clients don't give up FA years. It's why manny signed boras this summer, to try to get him out of his options and to Free agency.

also, and i love how manny has somehow won this battle in peoples minds we don't NEED to replace manny. yet. He works for us, and we hold the cards. If i were theo, with the corner OF market being so poor, if i can't find a good trade, i pick up his option for a year.

Actually, that is not why Manny hired Boras.  Check out Rob Bradford's article in the Herald today.  Manny hired Boras because the Sox management said they would sit down with Manny after last season and talk about his future with the Sox.  That meeting never happened and Manny blamed his agent for not getting it done, so he hired Boras. Boras has a great reputation of getting things done. Boras is the one stands to lose out if the Sox pick up Manny's options, not Manny, because Boras gets no money if the options are picked up because the current contract was negotiated by Manny's prior agent. After Manny hired Boras, then (I believe) that Boras put into Manny's head that if the Sox don't pick up his options, he can get a 5 year deal worth $100M (those are the figures that Boras is supposedly throwing around).

I blame Manny's decision to hire that snake Boras for a lot of this mess.

ok, whatever. if you want to believe manny's just hoping for the options to be picked up, and so is scott, thats fine, but you hire boras when your going to test the market and earn yourself a long term deal, and ever since then he's  wanted that option terminated.

boras doesn't need to put anything in manny's head, hes not stupid.

2 years at 20 mill < 4 years at 15mill or so.

he wont be getting the last two years at anything apporching 15 mill if he's 38 when he negotiates it, espically if he continues to decline at the rate he is.

he wants out of the deal so he can sell a team on a 4 to 5 year deal with his current numbers, not after the sox have had him for 2 more.

manny wants a new deal, he has no interst in the options. thats why you hire scott boras.

Manny DID have interest in the options because he asked for the Sox to pick up BOTH not one of his options before he hired Boras. He has stated several times early this season that he wanted the options picked up, that he wanted to play until he was 50 like Julio Franco and that he and David would be partners in crime in the Sox lineup for years.  You didn't listen to or believe any of that right? ::)  Have you not listed to anything Manny has said this year? Or are you just going to believe everything the press says?  Also, you didn't read my post carefully, because I clearly stated that Boras would not benefit from the Sox picking up Manny's options.

right, before this season, he wanted his reward, and when he didnt get it he went to plan B, hire boras and say "later losers"

also, what exactly are we arguing about? you posted a press article to me saying boras doesn't benefit by manny picking up the options, which is exactly what i said, and thus manny wouldn't have hired him (or scott wouldn't have agreed to represent him anyway, he gets nothing but his salary right now, he wouldn't have chosen to represnt manny if manny haden't assured him he's going to try to get the options wavied) if he has any further interest in said options.

and i've listened to manny, i heard him say he loves it here in certain years, and say he hates it half a season later. Why would i care what manny says, he's the biggest flip flopper ive ever seen.

I love the guy, but when has he ever stayed consistent on anything he's said? he changes his mind weekly.

Wow, not up on your baseball are you...that's ok...I'll help you out. Matt Holliday is one of the best young hitters in the game and is entering his prime. He's a fantastic cornerstone for any team over the next 5 or 6 years. He's a .300 hitter away from home and any players numbers will always be better at home simply because of comfort. Also, Coors Field doesn't carry the same advantage it used too. Holliday will cost less, is younger and will give you the same numbers Manny will.

Also I said Manny and one prospect, either Bard or Hansen, preferably Hansen for obvious reasons. I never said a couple prospects... Fernando Martinez is a Mets prospect.

There will be no World Series, and if you do trade both Manny and Youk...forget beating the Yankees for the next 3 years.  They are absolute studs against the Yankees.  Way more consistant than anyone that could replace them.

um...have you really looked at his splits away from coors?

he hits .100 points less, and his slugging percentage sucks. Hes a average hitter on the road.

this has been beat to death on the local sports shows. He's a good hitter, but he only looks great because of coors.

no way do you do that deal when you can try to get him this summer in FA.

Holliday is a free agent after the '09, not '08 season, the Rockies will move him before he hits the open market.

Also, he's batting .70 points lower on the Road than at home - .376 at home vs .305 on the road... In case you were wondering Manny is .314 at home and .295 on the road.
