According to Sportscenter's month long TitleTown search, Valdosta is TitleTown USA? Is this a joke? How is a town most of America has never heard of able to be called "TitleTown"?  We will never hear of this town again after this.

This is why they shouldn't have let just fans completely decide this....just seems silly now. The votes were probably so divided in the other big Cities like Boston and New York, this town slipped in.

I say "Way to Go Valdosta!!"

Boston's great no doubt about it, but nothing wrong with the little guy winning.  Winning something like this is going to be a huge thing for a small community like Valdosta or even runner ups Parkersburg WVA or Massillon OH. 

If Boston had won, the man on the street would have never had known, with the smaller town winning, this makes the award an event, a happening. 

I am a Bostonian who's comfortable enough with the 3 SuperBowls, 2 World Series, 1 NBA Championship & the 2 NCAA Hockey Championships the city has won since 2001, that I don't need the ESPN moniker of "Titletown".  That being said a few more pieces of hardware would be nice though.

I think what horrifies me the most though is the that a network that doesn't even cover HS sports (unless is able to be tied into the pros like the McDonald's All-Star game) has the poll dominated by HS football. These hick towns really need a hobby.

Nah, it's for everyone - Green Bay finished 3rd, despite Titletown being their official nickname.  Boston was 5th.  ESPN's summer programming is dubious at best.

Well, here's a town two minutes north of Boston that has a pretty prestigeous high school football history as well. And the 1914 team was voted the best high school football team of the 20th century by Sport magazine, winning the national title while scoring 600 points and giving up zero.

Throw Everett High's rich history against Valdosta's and then what does that town have? Meanwhile we have National Hockey Championships in the NCAA, recent World Championships in 3 seperate professional sports, the MLS runner up 4 times, the Bean pot, a Heisman Trophy winner, and tons of Olympians not to mention the captain of the 1980 Miracle on Ice team and three other members of that team.

How can ESPN run an internet site driven decision campaign that includes cities based on high school sports, when they know the children of those cities would spend hours every night voting basically for their high school?

It's just goes to show that they really are losing focus and seem okay with making the news rather than reporting the news.

I agree with this sentiment, even if I would have used different language.

As for Valdosta itself, it definitely is a good town for high school / Division II football.  There's more to sports than just football, though.  However, fans selected this, and therefore it really doesn't get me worked up too much.
