I know there is a while yet before our roster is set and hopefully Danny is not done with making up our roster for 2008-2009. Having seen a lot of argument lately about player roles, I thought this would be interesting. Please justify your choice after voting.

There are 5 choices listed but feel free to add anyone, including our rookies, under the "other" option. Please limit choices to players that are actually on our team roster.

My vote is for Leon Powe. I think he will be the first guy off the bench when Perk picks up a a foul or two early. KG will slide to the five and Leon will man the four. I see Leon getting 25mpg this year if healthy. 8)

I think 18 minutes for Leon is a little more likely, but I agree completely. Powe will get minutes behind both Perk and KG and should give us some inspired play. If BBD comes in about 30+ lbs lighter than he ended the year he will have to split time with him though. (unless there is a trade) Powe is going to be huge for us I think. Next I would put House. He will be the first PG off the bench and is an offensive spark and a defensive intensity guy who brings so much to this team. I think those two are going to be huge. I hope TA is in the discussion but doubt it unfortunately.

Can't say this poll is inspiring much confidence in the roster as constituted. All have merits; but none inspire the confidence of a player like Posey. Some games it will be Powe, others POB, others Tony or Eddie or Scal. The Roster is very matchup dependent at present. I think POB will definitely battle BBD for minutes. He is a shot blocker and excellent finisher around the basket.

If you are always playing the matchups it can make it difficult for the second unit to gel. If Walker or Giddens can step up we may be able to dictate the flow of the game more. Scal will need to earn his keep and play some minutes @ SF.

House / Pruitt
TA / Giddens
Walker (TA/Giddens/Scal)
Powe / Scal
POD / BBD

At the moment it's a one horse race - Tony Allen

We'll see if Leon can improve enough to change that.

If Tony Allen can get his game back, then he could easily get our own 6th man award honors. Imagine our Big 3 each averaging 15-20 points per game, followed up with Perk/Rondo each with 8ppg, then Tony off the bench with most of the points with 15-20 as well. At minimum with those 6 alone we would have 76ppg. Add in a few points per player left on the roster and you have a great squad. We just need to add a couple more key bench players for offense and some defense. Another poster said it again, that BBD might get traded, and/or Scalabrine, in exchange for hopefully that other key player for our bench to add depth.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Leon Powe he is the most productive.  (not the most consistent but the most productive when his game is on).

What do you mean by 6th man?

Do you mean player off the bench who will have the biggest impact? Who will play the most minutes?

I don't think '6th man' is relevant on an individual team, cuz he can't back up 5 positions.

Leon getting 25 minutes a game is a bad thing. Hopefully he'll be below 15.

This would be true except that Perk's habit of picking up fouls quickly will put Leon on the floor (first and longest) more often. This is going to make him 6th man by default IMO because Ray and Paul are not going to give Tony a lot of opportunity. Tony is simply too small to play Posey's role from last year.

The player who is on the floor the most and hence plays the most minutes behind our current starters is the one I consider the team's 6th man. It would almost always be the first guy off the bench. Last year it was clearly James Posey.

That list is EXTREMELY depressing.

Actually, thats what prompted me to create this poll. I was thinking the same thing. 8)

I have to vote House.  He is the most consistant player on the list.

I'm going with Tony.  I think of all the bench players, he will get the most minutes to make a serious impact.

I voted for Clifford Ray. He clearly has the most experience and talent left of anyone on the Celtics bench.

I expect Doc to continue using two big men off the bench. Powe will likely start off as first choice but I see BBD getting a decent chunk of those available minutes too.

Tony on the other hand has a lot less competition. Right now there's only rookies there. He'll be in the second unit alongside either Pierce/Ray and play a decent bit of minutes alongside the starters instead of Pierce/Ray to balance it out. He should get the most minutes and hold a similar role to Posey's playoff role (at least in early series where he didn't play PF).

Based on the second half of last season I would go with Powe however knowing TA doesn't have much  competition right now at the wing spot I will go with him.
