It was 15 years ago today that Reggie Lewis passed away.  I remember it so well because it is my birthday.

You'll never be forgotten Reggie...

I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was on a couple of sales calls in the Worcester area. I had just closed on a big deal and was flying high when Eddie Andelman came on the radio and the announcement was made. My heart was in my throat for the ride home and sure enough the Pike was jammed.

Andelman stayed on almost all night, well past his 6:00PM signoff. He was amazing dealing with the grief from the callers and although it may have been the saddest sports radio show ever, it probably was one of the best.

There are certain times that stick in your memory forever. The day you get married(the first time), the day your first child is born, the day your Mom and Dad pass, and one or two others that are personal.

Then there are those times where everyone remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing at that exact moment. The Challenger disater, 9/11, Kennedy getting shot, and for Boston Celtic fans, the day Reggie died.

RIP Reggie Lewis.

I was very young when this happened, so really have no memory of it. But I know about Reggie Lewis, and what he brought to the team. My thoughts and prayers on this tragic anniversary.

I can't really find the words to be eloquent about Reggie's death.  All I can say is, he is greatly missed by anybody who ever saw him play.

15 years.  I still remember being over at my cousin's house, and hearing the news.  Tragic.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
reggie's death...mchale's retirement...it all came crashing down.  i think that marked a very sad time in celtics' history.  yes, the bias death was crushing, but the celtics still were able go back to the finals, and even though they lost to the lakers the sting wasn't nearly as bad.

when reggie died, there was NOTHING in the cupboard.  too bad his life was tragically cut short.  :(

Reggie Lewis passed away.

I think I post on this topic every year and yet when this day comes around it still is hard to accept, even this year after the Celts won their 17th championship.  I saw Larry and the 80s Celtics play but I was too young to appreciate what it all meant.  I expected Larry to play forever and the Celtics to always win.  As I got older (and Larry got older), I began to form my true bond with the Celtics and the player that I forged it with was Reggie Lewis.  He could score, defend, rebound, pass...he was the torch bearer, the one that would carry us after the retirement of the Big 3.  I think Michael Jordan once said that Reggie was the best defender he ever played against.  And better yet he was only reaching the beginning of his prime.  A debate could rage on about how could he would have been, I'm sure someone could project his numbers statistically, but those could never measure the intangibles and heart he played with and unfortunately it was that heart that did him in.

I vividly remember watching the game when he collapsed and remember sending him a "get well" card.  I remember hearing the news of his death while on vacation and when I returned home, my father had kept all the papers and magazines in my room.  To this day, I still have those papers.

I truly wished that he listened to his "Dream Team" of doctors 15 yers ago because maybe then he would have been in the stands watching a new generation win a championship along with Russ, Hondo, Cooz, etc...

So while everyone is dedicating this title to Red (deservingly so), let us not forget Reggie who died trying to get back onto court and in Green!

15 years and the hurt is still there...

RIP Reggie Lewis (November 21, 1965 - July 27, 1993)

 Reggie, rest in peace.

That vid brought back memories of an aging C's team. Though Bird and Parish looked awful on D. I thought they did what they were supposed to but there was never any weak side help from...Reggie. Holy moses... In total fairness, it was a Nets vid, (MMMMMMookie, DC was the man back then) I really did not see one error by Bird in the Vid. When Drazen,RIP faked, Bird forced him in. Bird played DC well too be it fronting or on the block. Chief cam over to help at the right time, but RL was lost on D. Btw see Chief miss the dunk. How but McHales Pivot..is that legal?
