I tried to stay away from the draft, but I wanted to see the quality of the team that was available at this point.

Anyway, I thought LarBrd33 owned the Bobcats.  I can't see him giving up the team.  What happened there?

Long story, but if you want to peruse through about 30 pages of the draft thread, you can probably piece it together... Not the most pleasant of situations, on any count.  Long story short, he quit. :P

I asked him about it.  I still had him on AIM from talking about trade proposals.  He was banned?  He linked to me the very post that he was banned for and it didn't seem so outrageous.  How does that punishment fit the crime?

I checked some of the thread out and the issue was him posting the same complaint too many times?  Well, from my own personal experience I was pretty frustrated with the lack of dialogue about executive decisions, myself, and I could have done what LarBrd did and have had just as good a case.  There didn't seem to be much consistency in the rulings and it doesn't surprise me that a situation like mine happened again.

I received many messages from people who sympathized with my scenario but not surprisingly none came to bat for me in threads or in any other deed, so I wonder if these are situations of people being afraid to stir the pot (and risking being banned), or if it's a situation where everyone is just happy enough to benefit from someone not being involved in the game anymore.  Either way, it doesn't sound like a good situation to me.  Glad I got out when I did.

I'll probably be swept away as someone who quit and doesn't need their voice listened to on this subject, but whatever.  It was supposed to be a game and it was supposed to be for fun and that was ruined for two of the most involved participants and it even resulted in the best of them being banned from the forums.  Just doesn't make sense.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

That's not the whole story, and it's not surprising that you wouldn't get a full set of facts from somebody who was suspended.  While I like LarBrd33 on a personal level, he seems to enjoy playing the martyr bit a little too much.  He broke several Celticsblog rules, was warned several times, and continued to knowingly and deliberately break them.

Before being so quick to criticize the staff, I would suggest that next time you stop and consider that there are two sides to every story.  Shockingly, the person who is at fault doesn't always fess up the extent of their behavior.

From my perspective, it looks like an uninformed poster trying to stir up trouble because he still holds a grudge.  Pretty disappointing, especially when he's so ignorant of the facts.

Correct on all counts except the grudge.  Like I said, I've stayed away from these threads, so I'll gladly admit my ignorance.  I'm not trying to stir up trouble, it's just disappointing that one player was actually banned from the forums for something in a game...a game...that I thought was a problem, too, the problem being the lack of discussion about the decisions.

I appreciate you telling me a little bit more of the facts.  As an ignorant person, I've realized that telling facts helps to reduce ignorance more than just talking down to ignorant people.  You said look at the thread, so I looked at the thread.  The rule it seemed he was breaking was posting the same thing repeatedly.  I only meant to make a connection between the breaking of that rule and the problem I saw.  The rest was ranting, there is disappointment on my part, but no grudge.  I just would have hoped that something would have been done after my instance and before LarBrd33s to fix the problem.

Sorry for the interruption.

It's the policy of the staff not to publicly discuss the details of members' discipline, which is why I didn't provide a full accounting of the suspension (which was not a "ban").  Those details are between the suspended member and the staff, and we tend to keep them quiet not because we have anything to hide, but out of respect to the suspended (or in some cases, banned) member.  I see no reason to deviate from that policy, even though the suspended member has seen fit to misrepresent what happened to others of our members.  I would simply caution you that his set of facts is woefully incomplete, and that obviously, not every offending action is still visible in the forums.  We tend to delete inappropriate material, and we do much of our communicating via private messages, neither of which are currently visible to the public.

I do want to respond directly to the "it's a game thing".  Yes, this draft is a game.  It's for fun.  Celticsblog, in general, is about a game, and is also for fun.  We're not discussing ways to save the world here; this site is designed to be a place where people can come and have fun discussing basketball.  It's really all pretty trivial.  However, we have rules, and those rules apply to every thread on this website.  Members can't violate those rules, simply because they deem one thread to be less serious than others.

  • The good ole days.
On a happy note... both Ronnie Brewer and Amir Johnson are on Hollinger's list of breakout players this year.  Add them to the obvious breakout season for Jose Calderon, the young and improving but already talented Andris Biedrins, and The King, and we have the new #1 contender in the West to those pesky Blazers, in my mind!

Add Javale McGee to the list of young T-Pups off to a great start.  This team is shaping up nicely.   ;)

Yeah, at the time I thought you reached for McGee, but he's looking good.

I still don't think Amir is ready for prime time, though.  Still, it's a nice team for the future.

Agree about Amir Johnson, but that's why I grabbed Reggie Evans as a veteran that would be a solid role playing starter (aren't most starters alongside LeBron technically role players anyways?).

And to paraphrase Mr. Kevin McHale discussing the rationale behind drafting KG out of high school, before it was en vogue, from Fox Sports "Beyond the Glory":  "If you knew Michael Jordan was going to be Michael Jordan, you'd draft him when he was 13."

Now Amir is certainly no MJ... but my reasoning behind taking him in the 5th or whatever it was is in line with that philosophy.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
my team so far:
Conley jr: stinks
Brandon Roy: 21 pts 4 boards 5.3 asts
Butler: 21 pts 7 rbs 4 asts 1.3 stls
Nene (my boy): 15.5 pts 9 rbs 2 blks
Perk: 5pts 7rbs 2 blks

Ariza: 10 pts 3 rbs 1 stl 1 ast
Channing Frye: meh
Daniels: 5.5 pts 4.5 asts 2 rbs 1 stl
Etan Thomas: 5 pts 5 rbs 1.0 blk

Thoughts: Well, Nene sure answered those questions at the power forward huh? Everything seems to be going to plan....except COnely Jr. Where's the beef, MIke?? OJ Mayo seems to be playing well, Rudy Gay is playing well, Kyle Lowery is playing better than Conely in a reserve role.

I think my squad is somewhere between 3-4 and 4-3, depending on some close games. Which leads me to this: who does my pretend team want to be? Borderline playoff team or exciting young team? Wait...whats that Caron Butler? You're going to slap me across the face if I say exciting young team? Right. Antonio Daniels is now the starter, Conely is gonna have to earn his minutes to the tune of 27:21 minute split Daniels' way.

Make the climb fake Suns!
