Who is the Backup 3? does anyone else NOT see a glaring weakness??

We just resigned House and Allen. I'm happy about House because he gives you the total opposite of Rondo. the T. Allen signing kinda puzzles me becase with Tony being only 6-4, I don't think he's big enough to handle the other 3's in the league ie Lebron, Prince, Caron Butler etc. He seems undersized for a back up 3 position and I can't see anyother player on the C's bench, exception of Scal, playing the 3 position.....
Who is going to fill that need?

I've been harping on this point, as well.  I'm getting a little sick of people arguing that "Tony replaces Posey's defense!"  No, he doesn't.  Tony defends shooting guards, and some point guards.  He does not, however, defense small forwards or power forwards, as Posey did.

Right now, our backup SF is either Bill Walker or Brian Scalabrine.  That's a scary thought.

Uh, we all see it, but, dude, not everything gets done in one day.

But we also need a backup center as well. I'd rather have Scal as the backup SF than O'Bryant as the backup center. And our PFs won't do the job, too undersized for lots of matchups and only BBD has passable post defense.

No Roy, Allen is backing up the 2 and Giddens is backing up the 3. There are only 24 minutes to play with at the swingman position anyhow.

Maurice Evans or D Miles could still be possibilities, but to do that there would have to be some roster movement.  Maybe Walker to Europe.  Otherwise, Walker might be the guy to guard the big athletic 3s when Pierce goes out.

What makes you think that a 6'5" rookie shooting guard is going to be able to play backup small forward in the NBA?

I know you referenced in another thread that the team projects Giddens as a small forward, but I find that hard to believe.  If you can provide a link, I'd appreciate it.  Until then, I'll choose to believe that Danny hasn't completely lost his mind.

yea,that is a scary thought,my hopes are,Josh Smith will be available down the road,and we can do a trade/sign with $$ deal to get him.Is that at all possible,with Josh being a restricted free agent.After reading Jeff's post this morning,it doesn't sound impossible?

yeah, the thing i don't understand is i've been hearing that matt barnes is going to sign with phoenix for 1 year at 1.2 mil...after signing house and allen, we still have more than this available to offer him. i know, he isn't posey, but lets face it, there isn't another posey out there. barnes is younger, and actually appears to have a slightly more versatile game (consistent mid range jumper as well as slashing abilities, a 3 pt range, and good defense). then again, maybe we have talked to him, and he simply doesn't want to have to relocate to the east coast...who knows.

BUT, summer is a long time...if i recall, we were panicking last year saying we didn't have a bench, we didn't have a good starting PG, we didn't have the coach to take us over the top, etc. etc. etc.  but we won it all and proved people wrong.

we've still got a lot of time between here and there...danny will get what we need, we have a good core of our players back from last year (and for 2 year deals, at that! can you say 2010 sweepstakes??), and two more kids in giddens and walker who have a big chance to prove their worth on this team. that worked well last year with rondo, big baby, and powe, and i expect it to work out this year as well.

have faith, folks, we're gonna be ok.

Maybe Devean George is the answer.

Also, I think if we sign another player, that means Bill Walker won't be signed this year (it's Europe for him).  I can't see Danny going with 15 players given the risk at the backup C position.  He'll need that extra roster spot for late-season signing.

Tony may be taking Posey's minutes maybe but he won't replace him..not without growing another 4 inches in height and 8 inches in wingspan. He's listed at 6'4 but you know those numbers are always inflated. We're gonna guard Lebron, or Caron Butler with a 6'4 guy?

Except it kind of does when you burn 2 of your last 3 roster spots and half of your MLE in one day.  While there certainly is time for Ainge to do something, his flexibility is fading. 

I'm really hoping Bulpett is wrong about the money on House's contract.
