After reading this Ian Thompsen article, I say give Miles a shot. He is willing to take the minimum and his idol is KG. Miles goes on to say he wants to play on a veteran team, where there are players he can look up to! Maybe he has me followed, but low risk high reward!

"I'm just surprised he wasn't whining about the foul calls." - Glen "Doc" Rivers (6-11-08)

I agree about the article and giving Miles a chance. I see no risk in signing him. If you can get someone that long, quick, and talented to talk to the right people (KG, Pierce, Ray, Doc, etc.) Look out! KG could turn Miles into a very good defender.

Well if he was touching the top of the backboard's square, then I guess he isn't as fat as I thought he was (Or at least he slimmed down)

With Pose gone, and him only wanting a minimum salary I say bring him in. If things don't turn out we can release him before his contract becomes guaranteed. And if he can still play, it'd be a huge steal, I think.

If it's only for the minimum and he'll be conditioned play by the time his suspension is up I think it's a pretty decent move.

If he is healthy and only wants the minimum, its a no brainer. Sign him. You can always cut him later if someone better pops loose.

Even if he's healthy and motivated, two huge ifs, Miles doesn't fill a specific need for us. He doesn't space the floor, a career .168 3PT shooter, and he's a poor defender, despite his length and occasionally gaudy blocks and steals. He lacks the strength to defend the post, the quickness to defend the perimeter; as well as focus and a lot of the fundamentals.

Quote from: SI
"I feel like I'm a starter in this league -- on a lot of teams I really should be a starter,"

Miles has never been starting line-up material. He had six years to establish himself in the NBA, and playing time handed to him even when his production and work ethic didn't warrant it. Now he's coming off a "career ending injury," has a 10 game steroid abuse suspension looming over his head, and admits he isn't yet in game shape.

Quote from: SI
"I wouldn't label him as a bad guy,'' said an assistant coach who has spent time with Miles in the NBA. "I've wondered if he loves to play. Because he was such a prodigy in AAU, he was always handled with kid gloves, so in the NBA he couldn't take somebody always being on him. But I don't think of him as a 'cancer'-type person in the locker room. I don't think he has the personality to have that kind of impact on his teammates.''

Hardly high praise, maybe doesn't love basketball, needs to be handled delicately (but KG is his role-model?), at least he doesn't have a strong enough personality to develop into a locker room cancer.

It's not even about the salary. It's a roster spot I'd rather see go to one of the rookies, or House or Tony Allen or a veteran 3/4 who's taken advantage of his chances.

On second thought, I have to qualify some of my strong opinions. There was ONE 15 game stretch at the start of '06 where Miles played like a starter, 18.8ppg, 5.6rpg, 2.7apg, before he was sidelined by injury.

I still pass.

P.S. Here's a link to a classic Miles interview from the Oregonian to excuse my double-post.

I dunno... Miles could actually be an interesting player if he was healthy and motivated.  I think he has talent there.  At times he has looked incredible.  But yeah, he's been immature in the past and kinda perceived as a punk.  I remember him having a huge opening night game the year he was injured.  I just looked it up:

32 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks  13-24 shooting...

I mean if he could play like that... heck yeah give him a shot.  Lol

I think if anyone on this forum happened to be Bassy apologists when we first acquired him, Miles would probably appeal to you as well.  I mean Miles was playing on a team where basically his two best teammates were Telfair and Zach Randolph.  I kinda wonder what a health, motivated Miles would do on a team with a brain.

maybe he's worth a shot...

for some reason i see danny adding darius miles, chris andersen, and stephon marbury to finalize the roster with the money he has left at his disposal.

I'm on board with Miles and Andersen, but Starbury would be overkill. Too many questionable characters, it could potentially kill ever single thread of chemistry this team built in their one year together. I'd rather sign Miles, Andersen then maybe Arroyo.

I don't question his love for the game. I can't. Not when he's gone through everything he's been through with this injury and rehab, not with all the effort he's put in to get back on the court.

I agree with Walker's point in one aspect. It is a roster spot. I fully trust Danny will make the right choice. I loved BG James, but it was the right choice not to go 4 years. If he thinks putting Miles with KG will help, I trust his opinion. This is going to be intriguing. I agree with one poster on here, Danny is going to pull a rabbit out of his hat. Whatever we think he will do, he will do the opposite! Long live No. 44!

Id love to see Miles get a spot on this team. Ive been a fan since he has entered the league and its time for him to show the NBA that he can really play. Boston is a perfect destination for him to be a superb 6th man.

Give him a minimum contract and let him battle it out with Davis and Walker.   Hell, you could always cut Scalabrine if he shows anything.
