I have been watching summer league games on NBALP. I am relegated to watching non-Celtic games of course like everyone else. I watch in hope of seeing that slippery 'cast off' that Danny can sign or trade out from under an unsuspecting (Wallace type) GM.

Do all post championship teams disdain summer league entries the next year? Is this a common occurrence or is it another part of the cost saving manuevers being implemented by our management team. It's not like we had that super deep team is it? We knew we would likely have a couple of roster spots opening up didnt we? After our starters, we look pretty thin again. I guess that's because we (I) have nothing better to do than worry.

I often day dream what our summer league entry would look like this year if we had entered one. Here's my take:

Obvious members:

Glen Davis
Gabe Pruitt
JR Giddens
Bill Walker
Semih Erden?
Patrick O'Bryant

then it gets hazy:

Lance Allred
Dahntay Jones
Brandon Wallace
unk
unk
unk

It would be be great for us 'junkies' to see our newest additions working out and giving us some insight to next seasons bench roster. I feel like I am in the dark now (more than usual) about how our newbies will fit in. 8)

Spurs have had summer league teams

The Lakers used to host a summer league right? I presume they've had teams.

Pistons seem to trot out a summer league team every year. I'm pretty sure they kept that team for Darko after winning the title.

I guess after winning a championship they just want their players to rest and see what free agents will show up. I highly doubt that the team is just sitting around. Maybe they're just running scrimmages in Boston with the team and w/e other nba vets show up to try and get a contract(darius miles, dahntay jones, esteban batista, zhizhi wang....etc.
Can't stop, Rondo!

I would love to see Mateen Cleaves get one final shot with anyone...especially with Boston.

Obviously...This is posted out of my Michigan state fandom  ;)

I guess it would be nice to evaluate JR Giggens ourselves and see if he can replace Tony Allen for example. Is O'Bryan worth a paycheck as a backup big? How good is Bill Walker matched against NBA first rounders? Has Gabe Pruitt improved? I feel like I dont know half our bench and we wont have a clue until preseason games start.

Scrimmages in Waltham are fine for tryouts, but how well can we (as fans)evaluate players who are only playing pick up games that are barely reported in the print media. I love summer league, it gives us something to get our teeth into. 8)

  • You know my methods, Watson.
summer league, shmummer league...it has LITTLE impact on anything.  it's nice for basketball junkies, but means little come october.  kedrick brown, gerald green, brandon wallace, brandon hunter would be in the HOF if that were the only league available...but when they lace 'em up for real, no one remembers or cares about basketball in july.

Fenerbahce wouldn't allow Semih Erden to play.

We are yet to sign any of our rookies. Giddens didn't even practiced in the mini-camp. Walker is recovering from a surgery. I'm sure both these things weren't a surprise to Danny. O'Bryant only signed today.

So, our Summer Team would consist of:
Pruitt, Davis and a bunch of guys with no chance of making the team, because what we need now are proved veterans.

Nah, I wouldn't be interested.

Its always fun to see Powe owning Oden
or
Pruitt hitting those sweet 3s
or
Big bay dominating

BBD is busy working out in Waltham.

When not attending ESPYs, that is.

Powe is too good to be playing in the Summer League!

And I wouldn't be interested in having a Celtics team there. I'm watching  Mensah-Bonsu destroying Portland's Summer League Dream Team right now. And before that I watched a thrilling Canada vs. South Korea (Dalembert was cut from the Canadian NT, btw). I feel certified to join the basketball junkies bandwagon.  ;D

Among summer league games I've also been watching the replays of the finals games 1 and 6 on hulu. Doesn't USA basketball start soon too?
