If so, I think we can pursue another big man (like a 4/5) and beef up our front lines a lot.  If not, then I am not sure we can start the season without some kind of replacement for Posey at the 2/3.

The reason I ask is because Pierce, as everyone knows, can play the 2 or the 3.  Pierce could thus split time, essentially between SF and SG (backing up Allen for ten minutes or so a game).

1). Rondo 35 mpg/random PG/13MPG
2). Ray 37 MPG/ Pierce 11 MPG
3). Pierce 25 MPG/ _KG_ 13 MPG
4). KG 23 MPG/ Random PF/C 15 MPG/ BBD/ ~10MPG (garbage time?)
5). Perkins 20MPG/O'Bryant 10MPG/PF/C 18MPG

IF (and I just don't know) KG could play SF, we would be able to play a lot bigger.  I don't know if KG has the lateral quickness to guard opposing SFs, or if he has the speed to be taking guys off the dribble.

If he could do it, it would naturally open up a lot of options in free agency...

can garnett play the 3? on offense, yes. on defense, i would rather not have him guard someone like lebron. thats just my opinion.

keep in mind though, this league is getting quicker and smaller. big lineupes usually don't work in the nba. thats why the east wins during a lot of allstar games. its because of the hot 3 point shooting. they defeat the towers of the west: duncan, yao, amare, dirk, and previously kg.

Become Legendary.

he probably could, but it makes no sense because we have pierce at SF. why would KG have to play SF? and who is going to play PF if not KG?

"K Thanks"

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
If it was 2001 I'd play kg at the 3 no problem...heck I'd play him at all 5 positions.

O read it.. you won't find a 4/5 that is effective as KG.. pierce has established him self as one of the best SF in the game, i don't see the point of taking 2 HOF out of their natural position to replace with bunch of scrubs

The problem with KG playing the SF is minutes. Right now he plays about 34 minutes a game due to fatique (far less than Ray Allen and Pierce). If he has to spend time at SF because of all the running,it would probably go to 30. You want the maximum number of minutes his skinny aging body can handle. I don't even like him playing C against the stronger centers for the same reason.

Could he? The fact of the matter is that HE IS a small forward, that happens to be 7 feet. I know his game and I've followed his career closely in Minni. So when longtime Celts showed their frustration with Garrent executing his offensive arsenal from midrange as oppose to on the block, and when they seemed puzzled that the Big Ticket's scoring preference was more finesse than force, to me it came as no surprise. KG is victim of a more modern trend that your position is dictated by who on the opposing team are you capable of defending, as whereas in the past, position was determined by where you fit in the offensive structure. Examples include...

 1. Magic Johnson-On defense the 6'10 Johnson guarded the SF, but he was the team's PG, and arguably the best in history.

 2. Dennis Rodman-On defense would, can could cover anybody on the court, and usually was assigned to whom ever was the other teams go-to-guy, regardless of position. But on offense, although undersized for the position at 6'8, his ability to so effectively get offensive boards and to pass out of the pivot, he was determined a PF.

early in their careers kg played as 3 and pp played as 2.. however as they get older they lose some of their athleticism and speed, thus some of that versatility and endurance is lost, so they go to their natural positions

could he? yes

I think he can.  The big problem, though, is how it hurts the team defense.  If he's out on the perimeter guarding small forwards, he's going to have a tough time getting back to erase mistakes made on defense with his shot blocking.

It's an interesting idea, but given the defensive problems it presents PLUS the fact that it's much harder to find quality big men than quality swing men, I'd rather see the Celtics pursue options at the 3 than at the 4/5 on the free agent market.

He played SF because he was 18 years old and rail-thin. He absolutely shouldn't be playing full-time SF at this point in his career.
