Would a 250-pound Glen Davis have the quickness to play the power 3 position on defense? His 14-foot jump shot was coming along nicely by season end. He looks like he has lost a lot of weight in today's picture in the Boston Herald. Or Powe? Of the two, I think a very light version of Glen Davis might make the better defensive player. Are they better than what's left on the free-agent market?

Its an interesting thought.  I Definitely don't think Powe has the footwork to be a 3...and he is much more effective as a 4 anyways.  Davis on the other hand has the nimble feet, and skills to possibly be able to swing over there in certain situations if he loses some weight and works on his perimeter shooting.

More than this though, what I think you can expect from Davis though is playing a little more on the perimeter as a 4.  He can help to fill the role Posey had as the perimeter PF.  If he develops his shot a little more, and sheds some weight, he could be something in between Ryan Gomes and Anthony Mason.

Unless the team gets desperate.  Wouldn't Scal be a better choice, if it came down to it, for the 3?

No way. There is no way either of them are quick enough to play the 3. Unless we are playing a team like Cleveland when they have a slow guy like Wally in the game. I think Powe or Davis could match up with him. You stole what I was going to say.

In the end, I see Scalabrine playing a role on the team next year and possibly playing the 3 for us.

Scal would be a better choice... riding the pine.
He lacks the footspeed to play the 3.

Could you imagine Powe or Davis trying to guard Lebron James.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

The whole point of a SF is to have a player that can get rebounds, maybe not tall enough to play PF or strong enough, but fast enough to guard four positions, and have enough shooting skill to spread the floor.Between BBD and Powe, neither of which have a steady jump shot. Scalabrine is a decent 12th man, so we have to pick up a nice free agent, or two...or three to replace Posey and whomever else decides to leave for more money
Can't stop, Rondo!

This post is a joke like the Silly Ray Allen trade ideas, right?

Glen Davis at 250 is probably one of the funniest things I have heard in a while!

No.  Both are PFs.  They are just short.

i don't understand why people on this board are so high on davis. the guy's fat, slow, and cannot jump. he's gotten his shot blocked underneath the rim this year more times than i can remember. he cannot play power 3.

neither can powe. he isn't fluid enough to guard someone even respectable at that position. they're no marions.

The guys whose best position is PF: KG, Powe, BBD, maybe Scal

Of these guys, I'd play KG or Scal at SF, before I considered BBD or Powe.

You know, Davis had a pretty good handle and a decent jumper out to 15 feet.  Still, I don't like it for two reasons: 1) defensively he'd get killed off the dribble and 2) if he's on the court with Rondo, Ray, Garnett, and Perk, he makes the court a lot smaller as Ray is the only one able to hit a three.

Completely agree.  BBD is a borderline NBA player with marginal talent.  I think Powe over BBD in every aspect, including talent and potential.  Reminds of those all over Marcus Banks, who I knew from the get go was not very good.
