Gerald Green provides highlight play of day in Summer League

newsflash: he's not a celtic anymore, and this year he'll be on his 3rd team since leaving...

Newsflash -- the dude who posted it has exactly two dozen posts.  I sure that he made a simple mistake regarding the section he posted it in........many of us still do.  I am also quite confident that grayjonv and the others responding to the post are well aware that he's not a Celtic.

So, eliminating the simple mistake component of grayjonv's thread, what's the purpose of your post?

sorry, i don't take inspections of the amount of posts people put out before responding.  but i know that shore doesn't like me and he'll find any reason to point mine out...it's personal with him, so i take it with a grain of salt.

i was just making a correct observation that 1) it's general nba stuff, and 2) gerald is getting around the league, joining his 4th nba team.

Actually Andy, I have absolutly nothing against you.  Even though we butted heads earlier this year...when it was over I left it behind.

You have some great observations for which I pass along TP's to you on a fairly regular basis, I just object to any observation when it's made at someone else's expense.

I'm watching the game right now.  So far in the first half, zero impact for Gerald with the exception of that one dunk.  Oh well.  I like Gerald and hope he can somehow turn it around, but I believed and still believe the kid is a bust, sadly.

I understand this blog to be a vehicle for the exchange of ideas and opinions.  No player is PERFECT but one has to admire the player whose ambition drives his determination to be among the best. This desire for excellence presupposes an extended effort to study the game in order to gain an "edge".  It also presupposes a dedicated effort to be physically and mentally prepared.  It's a constant requirement to be "ready" when the call comes.

It follows that there is great disappointment from a fan perspective to see "world-class" potential that is not realized due to lack of due diligence.  Gerald was criticized by both Celtic and Wolves management for not working on his game.  Most Celtic fans expected Gerald Green to be the cornerstone of Celtic resurgence.  How disappointing to recognize that he remains "stuck" in first gear due to lack of effort.

Efforts to sensationalize his one dimensional game without qualifying the need for a multidimensional shift in his game approach is only providing a disservice to Gerald and to the game of basketball.  Dunks and "freaky" athleticism are fun to watch but students of the game (and there are many posting on this blog) crave sound basketball skills and the complete player approach.  Gerald certainly appears to have the "potential" but not the awareness (grey matter) to realize what it takes to become a basketball success story.

I watched the 2nd half of the game.  I didn't think he looked all that great.  Nothing going the basket, missed some shots, didn't rebound and his guy scored several baskets.  For awhile he was covering Gordon and Gordon was the best player on the floor by far.   Then again it's game # 1 and Gerald wasn't the only guy struggling.

First of all, O.J. Mayo provided the real play of the day (check the multimedia section for proof).

But I also heard that Gerald had a terrible game. I don't have NBA TV, but I was following the box score. Within the first 5 minutes of the game, the Mavericks had taken 9 shots. Gerald Green took 5 of them. That is all I needed to know. Mavericks fans weren't very impressed with anything Gerald did besides that dunk and the fact that he "worked hard."

I find it comical almost how many people write off Gerald Green.  His career isn't over just because he wasn't able to put it together on two terrible teams.

To put it in perspective, JR Giddens is a year older.  He's lost his position on a *college* team.

Giddens had some serious off-the-court issues that led to his departure from Kansas. Is this what you're referring to? If so, that's quite different from Gerald's issues, which are very much on the court.

You're certainly right that he's young, though, and I for one would love for Gerald to figure some things out and concentrate and make more out of his enormous talent. There's still time to make it happen.

and i remember being a Celtic fan in high school in the 70's and how i bragged about the Celts like Havlicek and Cowens hardly ever dunking because all they cared about was getting the two points and then getting back on defense - not what kind of show they put on with one play. to me, it was a badge of honor not to dunk the ball.

Havlicek dunked once in his whole career, ironically his first basket as a pro. 

I don't have any special animus for Gerald Green, but to see his one big play become the POD on NBA.com, while I saw a very ineffective (for a three year NBA veteran) Green when I watched the game, tells me this is just more of the same. 

GG really needs to go somewhere (Europe, D league) where he can actually play a season's full of game under trying circumstances, so he can grow up and become a basketball player.
