Speaking of which how does Pat Riley not make this trade with the Knicks?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=70~510~990~509&teams=18~18~14~14&te=&cash=

Shawn Marion and Mark Blount for

Eddy Curry for Stephon Marbury.

The Knicks dump two players and contracts they don't want plus they get a backup center and Shawn Marion the protype PF (Unlike Amare Stoudamire) for Dantoni's system.

Whereas Riles gets the PG he wants (and a big expiring contract) to pair with Wade while Chalmers comes along and the post player he desperately wants.  This is a win-win if I've ever seen it?!!!

Terrible trade for Miami.  Marion for Marbury? LOL

actually, chris wallace is mulling that one over... :)

Wallace would insist on giving Wade to NY as well.
And let's not forget the unprotected first round draft pick as well.

It's OK.  he will get two late draft picks back in return to draft players like Kendrick Brown and Joe Forte.

And if he happens to draft one of the top 5 players in the draft, have no fear, he will trade them away by the deadline.

The Celts are on Marbury's radar

I had to post this...there is not a ton of C's content except for this gem...

"If waived, Marbury has told confidants the Celtics are on his radar because of his ties with Kevin Garnett and Boston's need of point-guard depth, though Paul Pierce didn't sound like a fan."

I'm not a fan either, but he did play under that  joke Isaiah.

I dont think Paul Pierce is a Marbury fan. I worry that Kevin Garnett may be one. Would KG demand for Danny to give Marbury a shot? Even if Paul were against it? I hope not, that is a chemistry killer and I think they both like the team situation too much to risk it over a Marbury disagreement. 8)

Given their history I don't think KG is a Marbury fan. 1996 was a long time ago.

Although the Knicks will probably hang on to Steph. If he were to be released, I would pounce on the oppurtunity to pick him up. At age 31, I would hope that his days of trying to be the team icon is over. And I believe he would conform to teams rules just to stick it to the Knicks for dumping him. Honestly, he couldn't be no worse than Sam "chuck it up" Cassell & also provide better defense than Sam & give the same effort I saw him provide while playing for the Suns a few years back. Going to N.Y. was headache city for a hometown boy with a antorage as big as Marbury, the distractions are far to great for immature players experiencing that level stardom without quality #2 & 3 options who can help him with the transition of not having to carry a team by himself. Lets Remember that even K.G. & Pierce couldnt take bad teams to the playoffs by themselves the previous 2 seasons. He would play decent defense, my only concern with him because 3 better players would be in his ear non-stop motivating him to do so. Sign him!

pierce's comments on marbury doesn't mean he want him here persay, i mean if you ask anyone their honest opinion on the knicks, they would say that the knicks need to move him.

I can't foresee starbury accepting a role as a backup point guard, and I'm sure there would be a couple of teams willing to pick him up as a starter and pay better.

Cassell and Marbury are almost cut from the same mold.

If Marbury is willing to take on that role for the coming year, I could see him being an ok addition.  As long as he understands thats all his role would be.

Sometimes people get labeled improperly.  Most of the NBA called Pierce selfish for sometime.  Though I do agree that Marbury has those tendencies, at least in his community efforts, you can see there is something good in there.

WOW - Like my father use to say to me "there are a lot of things you want, but I will judge what you should get". Totally think Starbury would eb a cancer here, having to actually run a team, being option 4 on an offense, backing up Rondo. Sounds like a perfect storm a'brewing. Danny has to be the wise father here and say "Sorry Paul, maybe next trip to the store"

All I can say is THANK GOD Wallace is no longer working for the Celtics organization.
You only have to look at the 2001 draft fiasco to judge the level of incompetence inherent in the man's judgment faculties.
Someone else hired him on?  Well good for them!  I say good riddance!

I really think Marbury is targeted far too much.  What has he done to draw the ire of Boston fans?

The truth is that this guy is a bonafide player and is still probably a top 15PG in the league.  If he was comfortable coming in off the bench he'd be a good candidate for backup PG.

He is and has always been more of a facilitator than Cassell.  He doesn't have Cassell's post game or savvy, but he is a far better penetrator and passer.

And man, if Rondo could learn that sweet Starbury running floater...
God bless and good night!

"I'd try to trade him or buy him out at this point," added Pierce, who still believes Marbury can be a starting point guard in the NBA. "I just think he needs a fresh start somewhere else. Marbury needs to be on a veteran team where he fits into what they're trying to do a little bit more."

I think this answers the thread.  Obviously Pierce does not want Marburry replacing Rondo as the starting PG, but he believes he could start for someone else.  Also, I don't think Starburry's ego would want to be a backup pointguard.  I could be wrong though, I never expected Sam I Am to accept a backup role.

On CSN last night, Pierce told Dickerson that the first priority is signing the guys they have -- Posey, House, TAllen.  When pressed, Pierce said there are a lot of guys out there in free agency that would be interesting.  He did not specifically say he wanted Marbury.

I, for one, being a dog lover(guess no one here could figure that out)found his unbridled support of Michael Vick distasteful and appalling. Fot that reason alone, Starbury can play elsewhere in my opinion.

Let me first say that I don't love the idea of getting Marbury.  That said, if Danny were to do it, it might work out OK.  Much like the Bulls with Rodman (or crossing sports, the Pats with guys like Dillon and Moss), the C's do have the veteran leadership to reign him in.  Furthermore, at a minimum contract, it wouldn't be a problem for the Celtic brass to simply cut him if he doesn't work out.

Again, I don't love the idea, but it's hard to deny Marbury's talent.
