I know its only summer league but these guys are playing good basketball. Until I see Giddens and Walker play, I will continue to trust Danny.

Kedrick Brown and Gerald Green looked like allstars in the summer league. So didn't Marco Bellini last year. It's summer league. No one really plays defense. It's GLORIFIED PICK UP! Michael Beasely, the top pick, shot 1 of 13 from the field in one game.  Should the heat trade him now?

after reading that I thought about Shea Seals and Victor Page, 2 great college players who surprised me to not get drafted - years later neither have done anything... I didn't think about our draft picks, not even once

Beware of players who perform when they feel scorned or passed over. If they have the ability to play at this level then they shouldn't need an incentive like being "slighted" by teams to step up their game. That tells you they either are too lazy, or don't have the love of the game to do this all the time.

Blount is an example. He has the games of his career when he plays the Celtics. He is a dog all the other times. That tells you the guy has the ability, not the determination.

You can have these two underachievers. As was posted earlier, it WAS also just the summer league...

Let's see what these guys do against real NBA talent before crowning them the next Gilbert Arenas Award winners for outstanding 2nd round picks.

any Celtic fan knows Pierce used being drafted late in the lottery as motivation to come out strong and prove people wrong. So what are you saying about him

I remember when the Celtics messageboards would just light up over the excitement of summer league play and how it would translate into the excitement of the upcoming season.

Lemme tell you something, summer is a time to be catching up on the honey-do lists and getting those out of the way for the 1) the Patriots football season; 2) the Red Sox playoffs; and 3) The start of the Celtics 2008-2009 regular season.

Wins are few, times are hard. Here is your bleeping St Patricks Day Card.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
brandon wallace is another example.

i hate summer league basketball.  i'm glad we're finally on top again so we don't have to read these endless minute-to-minute updates, and then wonder when danny is going to sign the guy to a 5 year contract because he looked good in one game.

...and that idiot PA announcer from last year as well...

If summer league mattered at all Kedrick Brown and Gerald Green would be in the Hall of Fame.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Oops, guess I should read all the posts before I put something.  Touche RonJohn, TP.

Thanks, ma11l, Our picks will be fine. All of Danny's picks in the 1st round are still playing in the league (well I am counting banks and perk as his picks even though they were traded in for Troy Bell & Dahntay Jones). That's says something even though some players are on their third and fourth chances. E.g. GG, TA.

I have no problem with our draft picks.  I think Chalmers will be a nice player in the NBA...but I think Pruitt will be a better player, and there wasn't room for both of them.  I also think Walker is going to be a much better player than CDR.

Giddens was a wildcard.  I think he has the potential to be great, and he has the talent to be able to step in right away and be a dominant defender.  It was worth the risk.

I'm saying that we need to see more than a couple of summer league games to assess these guys. PP was suspect at first because there had  to be a reason all those GM's passed on him. It's easy to look back now and say that he should have been picked higher. It doesn't mean there was anything MAJOR wrong with him, rather something that the other guys felt was a question. He has shown in hindsight that he indeed was the player he had glimpses of becoming. It wasn't that long ago though that people were complaining about needing to trade PP because he wasn't a leader, he was a pouter, that he couldn't be the star. I didn't personally feel that way, however it was arguable. These two guys may turn out great as well, but there are legitimate reasons these two weren't drafted beforehand. I just don't buy this "slighted" thing because it is usually not sustainable. For every PP there are 10 Mark Blount's...

I'm very impressed with Chalmers and was very impressed with him at Kansas. He's easily capable of having a Derek Fisher like career next to Wade. Himself and Dwyane complement each other very nicely. Chalmers should start next season. He's the best point guard they have. Best ballhandler, best passer, best shooter, best floor general, best defender, best vision of their point guards (nice to have Banks around when you need him ;)).

I think Chalmers is going to be better player than Pruitt in the pros. Giddens like you said in the rest of your post, he's the wildcard, Giddens and Pruitt together possibly could work out as more than Chalmers by himself. It was fair enough to pick Giddens.
