If Posey falls through, what about Josh Chidress? Or is there an indication that the Hawks will match the MLE? He plays pretty good defense and just does the little things. He was my favorite player to watch in the Hawks series (obviously, not counting anyone on the Celtics) and he would be an ideal Sixth Man.

Hawks would most likely match an MLE offer, the most the Celtics can offer.

I really like Childress for his defense and athleticism.  His shooting form is ugly, but his percentages aren't that bad.  He gave the Celtics a bunch of problems in the first round and actually played respectable D on Pierce.

Atlanta may not match if they are trying to resign Smith.  Plus they are stingy.

What happens if Atlanta matches, but he wants to be a Celtic?  I would think he'd want to play for a winning team if he is getting the same salary.

Well, we could then engineer a sign and trade for him. He gave the C's fits last year and from that series on, I have coveted him as a Celtic. Standford guy and not a knucklehead. I think the Hawks match him. He's a steal at the MLE. Still young and useful.

This is my immediate thinking, however, if they are forced to pay Smith more than they want to (say, he gets an offer sheet from LA), they may think twice about matching, especially with Marvin Williams coming up for his contract next year.

Unless Atlanta agrees to sign and trade him, he has little choice.

please people, read the cap faq on the front page.

the most we could offer is the MLE, which the hawks would laugh abotu and match.

i think his current team will probley object to us givign him an offer sheet, what with him being under contract and all.

This is not an insane idea.  Childress is a very effective small forward.  He went to the Shawn Marion school of shooting, but like Shawn Marion, that shot goes in generally.  The Hawks ownership is in terrible chaos and if someone offers Josh Smith the moon, the Hawks will be very compelled to match. (as well they should)  That happens then Josh Childress suddenly becomes coveted and available.  The MLE might be low for what it would take, but it would be possible.

Then maybe they should offer it to him so that the Hawks will have to spend more money. Sometimes teams should be forced to match
