Celtics and Doc are on the ballot for the ESPYs.  It'd be great to see them (and our other New England teams/players/coaches) win.

Vote early and often.  :)

Osi Owemyiura (when you spew moronic stuff like he did, you don't get the respect of making sure the name is spelt right) was on Mike and Mike last week when they were announcing the nominees of different categories.  When it came to best team, and the host said "The Celtics", Osi immediately chimed in "there out".  When the host asked why, he said something along the lines of, if they didn't win the title, it would've been the biggest choke/flop of all time.  I guess he didn't see that the Celtics were picked to win 49 games by Vegas to start the season, or that the "worst team 4-12" was on the court and had no point guard or center.  Or that 9 of 10 ESPN "experts" picked the Lakers to run away with the title, 2 of which had them in 5 games.

Why is it that professional sports players feel like they have knowledge about other sports?  Just because he's big and can hit guys, doesn't mean he knows anything about basketball, and he proved it there.  The man speaks well and seems intelligent.  But he needs to stick with what he knows.

Easy there killer. Just because Tom Brady still wets his pants at the mere mention of Osi UMENYIORA doesn't mean you should trash him for having an opinion. What makes his opinion any less valid than yours or mine? None of us play professional basketball, much like Mark Stein who was one of those guys who picked the Lakers in 5. Personally, I'm going to vote for the Celtics because they were the best from start to finish this year, but I can see why others may pick the Giants. At the end of the day, the man is trying to win himself an Espy by belittling the competition. I think I'd have more of a problem with it if Mike and Mike had made the statement.

If the guy prefaced his statement with, "I don't follow basketball and I'm just talking out of my ass", I wouldn't have a problem with it. But he was speaking as if it was fact, and coming off quite arrogant.  He was also contradicting himself.  He said the Celtics weren't a great "team" because they had three all-stars.  Then he went and complained about how the Giants had like only one player in the top 50 NFL list, and then proceeded to name off about 5-6 guys on his team that he thought should be in the top 50.  Well if that were the case, the Giants would be out of the running too because they just have a few superstars that carry the team.

I have no problem with the guy as a football player.  He's one of the best in the league.  Don't try and cop out by associating my statement with the Super Bowl.

Watch the Espys??? I'd rather watch the WNBA. ;)
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

His statement about having only one of the top 50 on his team proves his point. They have guys on their team who should get more attention than they do but they play more of a team oriented game. Any true fan of the Celtics will tell you they have some other players on their team who deserve some national attention as well but don't because they do what they're asked for the good of the team (Posey, Rondo, etc.). Again, he's trying to win an Espy and project as much confidence as possible in his team.
Regarding the Super Bowl line, don't be so sensitive. My opening line was merely an attempt at humor that I know would not be incredibly well received by everyone here. I know what you were trying to say, but can you honestly say that you would have been just as upset if Candace Parker said the same thing?

Actually, given my opinion on the WNBA, I'd probably be more upset if someone like her said it.

But as I said before, I have no problem with him as a football player, and I would have no problem with him trying to build up his team.  They had a great year and pulled off a great upset in the Super Bowl.  But to try and disrespect other teams in hopes of winning a meaningless award doesn't reflect too well on the man's character.

Hopefully you and others will consider this as well when evaluating his character.
