I think Celtics will add Maggette and Andersen, and subtract House and TA. PJ will retire. Pruitt will be the back-up PG.
The fifteen man roster will be:
Perk/Andersen
KG/Powe/Davis
Pierce/Maggette/Posey
Ray/Maggette
Rondo/Pruitt/Cassell
with Scal, Giddens and Walker (13-15)
Approximate minutes will be:
Perk 24, Andersen 8
KG 32, Powe 8, Davis 8
Pierce 32, Maggette 30, Posey 20
Ray 32, Maggette
Rondo 38, Pruitt 8, Cassell 0
Rationale: Pruitt gets a full shot to be the back-up. With Cassell as insurance, there's no need to bring in another PG at this point. None of the FA PGs are all that exciting. Pruitt has a great stroke, great lift and the ability to make steals in the passing lanes. He may well become a better player than any of the FA PGs now available. Andersen has the footwork and mobility. He's exactly what the Celts need in terms of a back-up center; someone that will hustle, play defense and block shots. Maggette will join the Celtics. He could go to the Warriors, but it's likely they aren't good enough to go deep in the playoffs. He's already played for Doc. His family knows Doc. I think it would be a lot more fun for him to join the Celtics (at $5.8 million) rather than the Warriors for a few million more. He might go to the Spurs, but I think it's 50/50 he comes to the Celtics. Posey re-signs with the Celtics for 4 years at an average of $4 million. Other teams might offer him a total of $20 million; but he'll turn them down and return to the Celtics when Danny increases the offer. Posey doesn't fit in well with the Lakers style of play. He's also not what Cleveland needs. Detroit is on the decline. Best fit (besides Celtics) is NO or SA. But he returns to Celtics. I really don't see him hugging Chris Paul and Peja, or Duncan and Manu before every game. The guys on the Celtics are close. No one wants to leave a winning team. When it comes down to it, he will re-sign with the Celts. Cassell will be a kind of player/coach to help ease him into his next career. He's on the team to teach Rondo and Pruitt and because he's a friend of KG and Ray, and because he's an insurance policy if Rondo is injured or Pruitt doesn't develop as planned.
With this lineup, the Celtics will be the odds-on favorites to win it all once again.
