It was in the papers, wasn't it? I know that either the globe or the herald mentioned Perk was having surgery in a "Rondo and Perk decline chance to scrimmage against olympic team" paragraphs.
It was all speculation, along the lines of "Perk could need surgery". There were no quotes from either Danny or Perk saying it was going to happen.
This is interesting. If remember correctly, arthroscopic surgeries are done to remove loose cartilage from joints. This doesn't seem at all consistent with the reports that classify Perk's injuries as strains. I am sure part of this is to protect the player from being targetted, but I fear that this shoulder has been in worse shape than we think.
Arthroscopic surgery isn't only used for things like removing cartilage, although that can be done. Surgeons can also repair dislocations arthroscopically. I had this procedure done, and basically they made four incisions in my shoulder area, and just went in and stitched / tightened everything back into place. I'm sure that's what was done for Perk.
I think there was confirmation at some point that it was more than a "strain", and was in fact another dislocation. I'm not sure where I read / heard that, but I know that I did somewhere. They're no doubt just re-tightening the joint one more time.
The alternative to arthroscopic surgery is, of course, open surgery. Let's hope that doesn't become an alternative for Perk at some point, because the recovery time is longer.
