Brent Barry as Ray's back-up?

Brent Barry is now an unrestricted FA.  Might be a good back-up at the 2 for Ray. Great outside shooter.  Veteran smarts.  If we don't re-sign House, and go with a more traditional PG back-up, signing Barry would make alot of sense to me.

We went after him last season, and he expressed interest. His brother, Jon, was the one who was drafted by the Celtics, and did not want to play here, but that was more a contract issue, and not  a dislike of Boston. Jon very early on admired the Celtics, picked them (correctly) to beat the Lakers in 6, and basically said throughout the series that the Celtics were a vastly superior team.

i'm pretty sure he wants to stay out west, and there have been quite a few teams contact him...wouldn't surprise me if he ended up with the rockets.

Brent Barry opted out? Odd decision. Wonder what the Spurs said to him because he's not making more than the veterans minimum. He had a player option right? It wasn't a team option?

Surprised he opted out.

Brent Barry would be a great choice to replace Tony Allen in that role as the secondary backup on the wing.

As for a frontrunner for his services? I think Phoenix. Possibly Houston. Then San Antonio. He should be in demand since he's likely signing for the veteran's minimum.

Brent Barry would be a great addition if money and location weren't issues.  He could both back up Ray and be the third PG as he has lots of experience running the point.  I'm not sure about his defense, but it can't be worse than Cassell's.

  I'm less surprised that he opted out than that the minimum deal he signed in March was multi-year.

I am sure Danny has contacted him, he sort of has a man crush on Barry. That has been evident over the years. It wouldn't surprise me if he did come here, but I think he will choose to stay out West.

Brent is one of the more underrated talents in the NBA, but he's getting up there in years.  I'd sign him for the minimum in a heartbeat, though.

Chances are he stays in Texas, either with SA or Houston.
