since the topic has kinda changed to a mod-for-all
how do you decide to add a mod. is it purely based on whether u feel someone is "ready" or does it go by numbers....such as when there are a certain amount of new members, a mod should be named.
just curious.
I think Edgar will slap me for divulging too many secrets, but I'm in a sharing mood.
Generally, we'll talk about potential candidates on a semi-regular basis. We then discuss whether there's a need for a new mod, due to increased traffic, unavailability of current staff, the desire for a fresh voice, etc.
If we decide there's a need, people advocate for their poster of choice. Usually, it's a fairly clear cut case; all of our current mods that we've added since I've been on staff (wdleehi, IndeedProceed, Donoghus, Edgar, and Redz) have been easy decisions, and fairly obvious choices at the time.
Although technically the final decision is recommended by me and ratified by Bob and Jeff, basically any current member of the staff can veto any suggestion made. If there's any level of disagreement, that means the proposed mod probably isn't going to work out.
Factors that we weigh include level of activity, quality of posts, contributions to the site, and demeanor towards fellow members.
